I have the Rocket fairings also with no wood. A friend has the Rocket
fairings with the wood. We are going to fly each other's planes very soon
and see if we can tell a difference. As a passenger I could not.
I am very satisfied with mine without the wood !!!

I guess nobody has answered this question about PTT hookups yet??
I have a PSE intercom which is not yet hooked up but it should be
easy. All PTT or key connection does is connect to ground to talk. On my
PSE, pin 5 connects to the radio and pin 11 connects to the PTT
switch(es). The other side of the switches go to ground.

Vans says to fly the plane with out the gear fairings first. If you have
gear leg shimmy you add wood or some other material. If no gear shimmy
nothing is needed.

I swear Scott is in no way benefitting from saying that except for earning a
"Thanks, Scott, for the plug."
Actually, I have no doubt in my mind that they'll find it and hopefully
recover it in tact. And even though you may not ever recover any money from
it, in addition to the criminal case, my recommendation would be to sue the
individual in civil court for the cost to get it back to where it belongs,
re-install it, and the pain and suffering of the setback to getting the
airplane done and fly it.

Here's Van's response for those interested:
This rumor seems to crop up every few months. There is no coiled
method for the vent lines. It won't work as well as the plans
method. If the line is not significantly above the tank it is easier for
the fuel to be pushed out when it expands.

I just heard from my buddy Paul Stratman (RV-6A). He is up to his ears
at
work. He gave me an update (since I am letting him be my beta tester)
and he
is tremendously pleased with the unit. He has a 5 little items, or
squawks,
which he has reported to Dynon. None any big deal. Dynon reported they
would
look at each item.
Paul flew it from KC to Dallas this weekend and through some IMC and
says
the unit "is great and very responsive." He has nearly 6 hours on it in
2
days. So far so good.
Knowing Paul, he will give it a rigorous testing soon before his
rendevous
with Team RV at SnF for some show flying next week.
That's about all for now. He will make an update to you all as time
allows.

Hi Nick from Nebraska!
I stop in Scotts Bluff often. That's where the west really begins. There
is a courtesy jalopy waiting for you at the FBO if you stay at the (name
goes here) bed and breakfast which sets a fine spread in the morning. No
garbage gooey buns and wobbly coffee at this fine place. What is the
name? The FBO knows. Maybe you do.
I stopped one time in (North Platte? Sidney?? ) wish I knew the name
because the restaurant on the field is very fine and has '50's prices.
Nebraska is in the fifties mostly, huh? Wide open spaces and nice people.

You bet.
North Platte: great place to stop on the way to OSH. Service is fast and
friendly and they give a DISCOUNT on fuel for those on the way to or
back from OSH. Biggest problems: You always find someone you want to
stop and gab with about their/your airplane, someone you both know, or
where you are staying in OSH. Restaurant on the field, The Airport Inn
(duh) serves a famously great slab of beef for dinner, if you want to
pause that long. One of my favorite stops if I'm up there. Great
chocolate cookies in the lounge. And usually someone working the counter
you won't mind giving your money to.
Keep it on the list.
Michael

Subject: | RE: TruTrak Stand Alone Altitude Hold |
--> RV-List message posted by: "Robin Wessel" <Robin.Wessel@verizon.net>
I e-mailed Trutrak in response to their ad in this months Sport
Aviation. I am very interested in putting one of these into my 6A.
Naturally, I want to make the install as simple as possible.
Details-
They are offering two models- $1495 model w/o trim sensing and a $1745
model with trim sensing.
excerpt from their e-mail:
Altrak does not require any panel space other than the engage/disengage
push button. Push the button to engage, push it again to disengage.
Once engaged, an LED in the switch will indicate that the unit is
engaged. The standard Altrak will flash the LED in the engage button if
the altitude gets off by approximately 25 feet, fast flash for low and
slow flash for high. Also available, is a trim sensing servo for an
additional cost which will sense the need for trim before the system
begins to loose or gain altitude. This is enunciated with the same
flashing of the LED. The trim sensing servo is not necessary for Altrak
to work properly, but some may want the added function that the trim
sensing servo will give. Altrak will be available in mid to late April.
Conversations with them indicated that the primary advantages of the
trim sensing system is 1) reduced servo load and 2) avoids a potential
pitch bobble when you disconnect. The bottom line good news with their
system is the fact that only one small hole needs to drilled into your
panel to mount.
Switching subjects-
I have been really keen on GRT's new EFIS offering. Apparently, Greg
from GRT designed a lot of the FMS software for the 737, so he really
knows about these types of systems. Curiously, I noticed that his EFIS
system concept looks a lot like Sierra Flight systems. Have you ever
noticed that their Sierra EAU engine monitor that works with their EFIS
looks identical to the EIS? I wonder if Greg had a part in that system
as well. Greg's system in my view looks right on in terms of
implementation.
I really like the idea of the GRT EFIS system effectively operating as a
MFD or Slave to an outboard GPS (UPS & Garmin have a significant leg up
in technology). This is how all of the major avionics vendors are
structuring their MFD's and electronic HSI's. The BMA system lacks this
feature as their GPS is hardwired in and you cannot use your IFR
certified GPS as a primary NAV source on the BMA EFIS.

Robin,
Thanks for the info. I'm glad they're only using a small button for
minimum real estate usage on the panel.
I may have to get me one of them critters to go along with my
Digitrak. Since I got my Digitrak early, total price for a 2 axis AP
will be under $3000, and only have the real estate of a 2 1/4 hole
(plus a button somewhere else). Not a completely full featured AP,
but close.
If the ALTrak works like the DigiTrak, I'll be real happy.

Randy,
That's awesome testing you did there. Thanks for taking on the
challenge so all of us would benefit. And thanks for not finding a
great advantage over the Hartzell. Now I can keep mine with piece of
mind (whatever that's worth).
For your effort, I'll be glad to buy you a beer the next time we're
in the same neighborhood.

Yep, my wife put up a bit of grief over the $350 bucks claiming our home
owners insurance would cover anything. Doubtful it would have covered this,
glad I didn't give in now.
Like I ever do anyway...... :-)
