It works great, but is a suspected carcinogen. Use proper ventilation. We
apply it with a small squeeze bottle with a needle attached to the cap with
epoxy. (Drill a hole in the cap and insert the syringe needle through from
the inside.)

Let's not forget that George and Becky Orndorff work closely with Vans and
they were Blasted off the list too. Right now I am the closest thing you
have to having access to the "vans" people. I ask George quite often how
"Van's" would respond. And then I post the answers here. However most of
the time the list sorts things out on it's own. When in doubt please call
Vans for their take on things.

I am sure Vans put in a roll over protection into the roof structure of the passenger
cell, but not nessessarily a roll "bar". It sure looks good!

There is someone from Van's who has answered queries I have posted to the list
in the past. There was one employee UNOFFICIALLY monitoring the list on their
own time when this person had time. I think that with the -10 they haven't had
as much time. Like so many others who have left this list, representatives
of Van's Aircraft left the list after being attacked so many times by so-called
"experts."
What strikes me is that some of the most vocal people on this list aren't even
building much less flying an RV but are "thinking" about it. And stirring the
pot while they're at it.
But then, I'm no expert....

Dear Bill and all Aviators,
Our fine EAA Ch.-179 here in ABQ had the pleasure of hosting a very successful
Tour Stop for "Aluminum Overcast" twice (in 2001 & 2002).
Last November, I took six of my finest men with me on the (free) ferry flight to
the next destination (& took plenty of pics too!).
As Luck would have it, ABQ was the last stop on the Tour, and the Fortress had
to be ferried back all the way to OSH. It took us just under 7 hours non-stop
from ABQ-OSH at an average OAT(IAT) of ~15-20 degrees F. at Altitude. One get's
used to the cold after about an hour or so.
Now how is that RV related?
Well, four of us seven have been involved with RV Projects, and one more is interested
in the -10. And the other two of our group just don't know what's good
for them (they don't listen either)!!

JUST GO FOR IT, to keep this flying Museum alive, and to bring HER to the Veterans

The guy I used who first screwed it up was a very well known and respected
Chicago prop man named Anderson.
The guy who cleaned it up was named Art Mueller and he used to work at Whirlwind
propellers up in the Chicago area. I am not in Chicago area. I am 250 miles
south. We have no one in our area who does props. I wish there was.
I don't know if he is there any more or retired.
You might do a Yahoo search for whirlwind to see if they are still in business.
Other than that, you might try finding the problem areas yourself and work with
a propman till you get it right.
Is your a new prop?? Or is it a repitched one? I would think that they should be
smooth from the factory.

MicroAir now has a fix on their website for this problem.

I called EDMO who is the distributor for these radios and they said that all repairs
have to be done by the manufacturer. So your supposed to send your radio
to Australia to get fixed. Takes about 18 days. EDMO was very helpful and
faxed me all the paperwork I'd need to send the radio back.
I've already performed the procedure they specified in their service bulletin since
I have all the equipment necessary. I'm going to try the radio out tomorrow.

Agreed on all points, Jerry, but it seems that Van's might consider
something like a "Frequently Asked Questions" list or something of the sort.
I have asked them maybe a dozen questions in the years I have been building
and I'm sure that none of them were the first time anyone had asked. I
really do hate to ask them questions, but it sure would be useful to have an
archive like Matt's of e-mailed questions to and answers from Van's. It
might also help Van's staff get together on their answers to the same
questions. It's really a sinking feeling to hear "Don't do it like the
plans say. Do it this way" from the support staff.

I did not mean to say that I am the closest thing to a Vans representative.
It certainly came out wrong after reading my previous post, Please accept
my apologies. I am not anyway related to Vans corporation. All I am saying
is. Is that George has a direct link to the factory and can readily answer
any technical questions that may not be answerable among those on the list.
Also bear in mind that George and Becky have built almost all of the
aircraft in Van's stable, with the exception of the 10 of course and maybe
the rv-3 but I would put George up there with anyone from vans as far as
building goes. (By the way, I am hangared with him)

Once in a while you'll see Scott McDaniel here with disclaimers that it is
solely his opinion, not his employer's.
What with the plethora of lawyers looking for a case, I don't blame Van's for
not wanting an electronic record of any advice they might give. They already
have lots of manpower devoted to phone and personal advice to builders. Most
of the guys giving advice over there are just folks who have built one airplane
anyway, just like us. What I do if I REALLY need something I can't find here
is to corner one of Van's "Skunk Works" builders. Now those guys know what
they're doing. Also, the engineer Ken Krueger has helped me with invaluable
advice a couple times, although he is one busy dude and hard to track down. :)
Of
course, it helps living 15 minutes from Van's......
I was lucky enough to be over there right after the -10 flew. Got some great
pix...

Unfortunately they were - only a few, but enough to poison it. There was
always a bit of a caveat that they weren't "official" spokesmen for Van's
and that gave the hecklers an opening. But I'm not sure it would have been
much different if Van Hisownself were on the list. In a group of 1000 it
only takes a few tenths of a percent to screw it up for all.

I am a new builder (-9A Emp), and have been here for about 6 months, a
rookie. I have learned who has valuable information, and I believe, can see
thru some of the BS. Being a retired police officer I have heard my share
of BS. I for one would not be too proud to at least attempt to get "someone
from Van's" back here, maybe we need to try that, and monitor the people

Yes sir: They were rude to the point that they just stopped being on the
list. Goerge still monitors, but unless he is asked directly he will not
respond. There is always some wisenheimer who has a better way of doing
things. I find quite frequently it is someone who is not building or
someone who is just bitter that wants to make someones day and punch him in
the ribs because he didnt comment to someones question the way he would
have. Isnt it great that there are genuine people whose sole intent is to
help the fellow "builder" only to get insulted? I go out of my way to help
all who need it and am the first to say I'm wrong if I'm wrong, there is no
shame in that, however you have people on the "list" who are wrong and even
though they know they are wrong will not admit to being so and in my
opinion this kills the educational aspect of trying to learn the questions
posed. I will stay on the list because I believe there are genuine nuggets
of information out there and people who are receptive to good conversation
and slow to insult the fellow listers.

A shame, but it is good to see that Van's folks are busy making great
airplanes even better instead of sitting here trying to separate the wheat

Rude? Yes!
The down side:
We all have different sensitivity levels. And during the last 6 or 7 years
on the list mine seems to have loosened up somewhat. The is list has taught
me to see no more reason to bring my ego to this list than I see reason to
put my ego in the pilot seat when I get ready to fly.
I don't think anyone can survive very long in the "list" environment if they
are willing to be insulted. and then be intent on acting upon insults when
they happen.
The only issues that I feel warrant careful observance and action have to do
with safety concerns.
The rest tends to look after itself
The upside:
The sense of comradery that rises out of the give and take of sharing good
builders information, the kidding, joking, travel tips, product and supplier
references and the folks that are first met here on the "list" and fitted to
faces at places out there in the real world.
The challenge of sifting out the pepper from all those fly specks(g-}!
Again, the safety tips and hints that help us all to survive so we can get
in more flights.

slots every day when you can call tech support and get your question
answered. It is sad that too much arguing ran off a rep from Van's but they
still offer what you are asking. If you haven't tried it, try it you'll
like it. If you look at it through their eyes, they do offer support on an
individual basis, which I feel certain is more important to them than the
RVlist, in answering specific questions.
I envy you guys close to the holy land, being so close to what is happening
directly from Van's.

I thought it was very interesting what a Lancair driver said at Oshkosh last
year. I quote "When your long distance charges equal your kit price, you
are nearly finished building". After building a glass airplane, trust me,
