etc? Seems like it's a bit too far away from the wall to simply put a flat
interior panel over it.
I have done a complete interior for my RV6A. The lower sides next to the
seats have a panel that is around an inch thick. It is made from a thin
sheet of aluminum that spans between two blocks of foam. The foam run top
and bottom to keep the visible surface out from the sides. On the back side,
the rudder cables have a strip of aluminum to rub on should they ever get
slack enough to. They can never touch the foam. This hidden channel was also
required to hide the rather thick electrical wire bundles that run down both
sides. They have L shaped brackets riveted on the inside of the skin to
support them and keep them insulated from the rudder cables. Hope this

Definitely do all your electrical wiring, engine, brakes, plumbing, and
whatever before the top skin! Only rivet the top skin after all is
completed and before you start to fit the cowl.

Well, the truth is they don't seem to be in the way, and they don't look
that bad. Anything you do to hide them will add WEIGHT.

I went to a boating store and got the very light Teflon-like tubes that have
a slit along the entire length. They just slip over the cables. IIRC, they
come in 6' or 8' lengths and different inside diameters - forget the size I
used, but you can estimate it at the chandlery.

Does the forward stick need to clear the aft cross-member on the gear
boxes (F802T?), or does the stick not go that far forward when all the
pushrods are in place? The hat on my infinity grip catches on it
now....guess I was foolish for thinking I could fit the grip in one
attempt anyway.....

Yes, I have the s-bend in the stick from Todd. As it is right now the
bottom of the infinity grip is at the top of the s-bend. I think I'll
be able to lower it another 1/4" to clear the cross brace though. That
will give a generous clearance with the panel and my thumb as well as
minimal clearance with the F802T brace.
I mistakenly drill the exit hole for the wire bundle a little low --
just above the pivot point. With aft stick the wires are stressed
against the weldment the stick bolts to. I'll have to make the hole a
slot instead to give the wires more clearance. Just fyi for those who
follow.

On a related note...is it preferable to drill an exit hole for any stick
wires? Is it not adviseable just to run the wires out the bottom of the
stick where the aileron pushrod and crosslink rod attach? I'm referring to
an RV-7, which may be different than the -8, but I assume is pretty similar
to an RV-6.

My vote is no to drilling an exit hole in the bottom of the stick.
I sure don't want the stick breaking off in my hand as I am coming out
of a loop or 50 ft from landing.
I have a -6 so can't speak for how the other models are made.
This is just my opinion and am not arguing with anyone that does it.
