What do you have on the floor where your feet rest? I had a strange
vibration and found it was exhaust pulses as they vibrated the fuselage
floor. Gotten rid of when I put heel padding under the rudders. Just
another place to consider.............

I have been flying my RV9A for one year now and just completed my first
condition inspection. All was well except upon removing the nose wheel
to repack the bearing, I discovered that the spacers between the nose
fork and the bearings had been rotating causing noticable wear on both
the fork and the spacer. The plans called for 7 to 10 foot lbs of torque.
I usually torque on the high side. My engineering friend alerted me
that you cannot get an accurate torque on a nylock nut. Anyhow I am
not sure if the torque was thes problem or if there was grease between
the parts that may have been a factor. There was no indication of a
problem before removing thes wheel. I cleaned the parts , torqued even
to 11 lbs, marked a spot on the spacers and went flying. No luck, the
spacers on one side had moved. My friend suggested drilling and tapping
for a set screw through the no;se fork into the spacer. A second call
to Vans confirmed this as a fix. My first call resulted in a suggetion
to add a little to the torque numbers. By the way Gus at Vans confirmed
that others have had this problem also. So this was what I
did---Drillecd for a 8-32 counter sink screw through both the nose fork
and into the spacer. Enlarged the portion in the nose fork and tapped
into the spacer, then countersink in the nose fork so the screw does
not interfere with the wheel fairing bracket. I also used a metal
locknut in place of the nylock. Hope this helps any of you that might
encounter this problem. exscuse the typing. Don

Jim,
Are you using the inexpensive (approx. $35 for a set of 8) rubber conical mounts
for your engine or the Lord type Conical Engine vibration isolators that Van's
sells for about $300?
Just curious....

A quick note to those on the list contemplating having your tanks professionally built. For the first time in 6 years of building, my schedule has lightened up (PHEEEW)and as a consequence turn around times are very fast. Right now 2 weeks is not unusual........the norm is around 6 weeks. If you would rather not handle the sticky, stinkey gooey stuff, and you want super clean workmanship...now is a good time. My best references are the staff at Vans, I get most of my work as direct result of their sending me new clients. Call or email me for a quote (530)247-0375. If you email, let me know which model airplane you are building, what sending units you want installed and whether or not you want the aerobatic modifications. I also do repair work on existing tanks and I dont mind talking people through their own repairs. All of this information can also be found on my website. www.evansaviationproducts.com
Thanks a bunch.....Evan

My guess is 5. Heck I don't know. I do know I'll be there. The gentleman
that hosted the barbacue no longer owns a hangar at the airport so no RV

If you do come please read the arrival procedures this year as there is
a
temporary FAA control tower in effect. Tower frequency is 120.525

I seem to recall...in my humble opinion...perhaps....
This was on another group or email list I monitor. It's a couple of local
agents for an insurance company with the same initials (AIG) but that is
supposedly the only connection. They 'forgot' to give back rebates to their
customers and got caught. The message I read said $100k was missing.
Also read where the 'real' national AIG was issuing disclaimers about there
not being any problem with them.
I've searched for the message and can't find it so maybe it wasn't, but
check before you get nervous about your coverage.

It is only a 15 minute jaunt for us so I can't say whether it is worth 500
miles or not. I have been going for 11 years and think it is great. It is
not the biggest of the regional fly ins by a long shot, probably close to
being the smallest.
Van's will be well represented. There will be lots of RVs. Some good
forums.

group in a long time! Ed Cole has volunteered the use of his hangar and BBQ
grill, and I'll be bringing the burgers. If you still have an open schedule
and nowhere else to go, feel free to join us. Pleanty of parking near the
hangar and the vehicle gate should be open. If you'd like to join us, please
respond via the Yahoo board at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NorCal-rvlist/.
Direction for ground arrivals are also posted in the recent messages.

Rick ... the fancy wrenches for this application are here...
http://www.anplumbing.com/shop/shop1.php3?shop=Tools&dept=Hose!_End!_Wrenches
More info here...
http://www.russellperformance.com/automotive/adapters/technical_info.htm
Installation instructions here from an A&P instructional site.... with a
link at the bottom to the torque values... but the basic instructions are
for turns after finger tight, not torque...
http://avstop.com/AC/apgeneral/INSTALLATIONOFRIGIDTUBING.html
Or you could just buy a flare wrench set from Sears...which is what I did.
http://www.sears.com/sr/product/details/productdetails.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0351480837.1056688360@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccejadcijjjjmlmcehgcemgdffmdflf.0&vertical=TOOL&prod_id=00942012000&fromAuto=YES&bidsite
Sears Item #00942012000 if the above long link doesn't work....:
)
...hope this helps

Sorry guys - correction to previous message
... the previous finger tight and then turn comment should have been for
FLARELESS tubing fittings
http://www.avstop.com/AC/apgeneral/INSTALLATIONOFRIGIDTUBING.html
The correct torque table for our FLARED fittings is in the center of the page.
BTW this whole document is very useful, and should be book marked...

A lot of really good technical information is in this document.
