Yes, but a horse is a horse is horse. Gotta take what the big guy in the

Don't get too particular on the "4" bushings you have installed. If it takes

One of those center snap bushing is going to be taken by the manual elevator
trim. Are you saying just go ahead drill out the center section web just
above those two or moving over to where my finger is to go through the
second center floor rib flange for additional snap bushings? If I go above
the two already in the web, I can just adel clamp the wire bundle to the
center floor ribs to clear the elevator pushrod. Am I thinking right here,
since I've never built one of these before, or am I just having a brain
f@rt.

I am not familiar with that area on the 8.
As a general note, and this from from several dozen rv tech counselor
visits, most builders get too concerned about drilling holes for bushings
for fear of weakening the area. 999 times out of a thousand, put em in.
holes through the web will not weaken the structure appreciably if done in
moderation.

Mike, that picture of on my 7 forward center section. The two snap bushing
are plans specified positions.
Later today I'll go ahead and drill out the web for two more wire paths
centered above the existing two plans specified bushings. I didn't think
there would be a problem in doing this, just wanted to bounce it off of
someone, somewhere who had already addressed this issue.
Thanks,

Hi,
As I recall, a hole in a beam should not be larger than one third the depth
of the beam and should be centered on the web.
Small holes such as for wiring have negligible or no effect on the strength
of the web. I think I remembered to keep mine away from the edges, however.
I vaguely recall running some conduit thru the lightening holes in the ribs
attaching them to the rib with plastic wire holder thingys.
Where are these holes to be again??? (C'mon brain, wake up!)

Hal,
I've back away a little for this pic for reference to location
http://rvflying.tripod.com/q6.jpg The two snap bushings on the lower web, on
the left side of this picture, are actually in the center of the center spar
section. The plans call out for these to be drill at 1 17/32 above the
center of the rivet line below them. The two sharpie circles I have drawn
on the web above them represnet 1 17/32 below the center line of the rivet
line above them. The holes would be through the web only.
I'm like Mike, I just don't see a problem drilling two more bushing holes.
It wouldn't be an issue if I were not using up one of those lower center
bushings for my manual elevator trim cable. As I mentioned to a posted off
list, I am going to Unibit the aft tooling holes in all the seat bottom ribs
side to side just to have them there.

I checked the SWR and the antenna is fine. Can't get a better ground
plane than a metal airplane! Also used the doubler that came with the
antenna. Used "Amphenol" brand connectors, best on the market(IMHO). I do
this kind of work a lot so I Know the antenna is OK. I think I'll try
shielding the Amp and M/P gage wires as Gene suggested. Thanks
Wayne
