Bruno there is a ton in the archives about this.
Go here http://www.matronics.com/searching/search.html
Use a search of lightspeed&ignition&speed
Put your feet up and enjoy.
On my 180hp c/s I saw:
4 kts TAS increase to the wall
.5gph better economy at the same TAS as dual mag.
Better running idling engine, better hot starts,
On second LSE I found
1kt maybe
No economy
Better running idling engine, better hot starts, than w/ 1LSE
I cant advise on the difference between the 2 & 3 models in performance
cause I only have the 3's.

Hello All
I thinking about replacing one of the mags on my RV-4
with an
electronic system and would like to know from the peoples who have done
it
using a Lightspeed System the pros & cons of using such a system.
What kind of fuel economy and HPs increase did you get?
Also is a Plasma 3 system worth the extra cash vs a Plasma 2 Plus
system?
What spark plugs are you using ( Long life or Iridiums??)
Comments regarding Klaus's services...?
Thank you for your time

Sounds like you've already learned the important lesson- the only reason to
final install ANYTHING is that you HAVE to in order to proceed.... I had the
rear glass and all attach hardware fitted and ready for final installation
before riveting the skin on, and the forward "fingers" were the very last skin
rivets on the whole project.

I am having trouble with my KLX-135A. It seems to lock onto the satellites
fairly quickly but after flying for a short time; all I get is FLAG. After
going to the OTH page, it seems to have good signal strength but there is an
asterisk by all the satellites number indicating a problem. I can cycle the
power and it works for a short while and then displays the FLAG. Is it
required to force cool this radio as it seem to get worse as it heats up.

Gary,
I would pick a small bone with the manufacturer issue. I, at one time,
looked into this with our local FSDO as I was thinking about establishing
the necessesary equipment to do the bi-annual recerts as a part of a course
we were looking at developing. Technically the FAA can't stop you as per
CFR14, but they can make you prove your skills and equipment are competent
to the task on the same basis that a repair station has to maintain its
certification.
Now that said, the equipment and all that effort, on the list price market
will cost way more than 8000 years of bi-annual certifications will.
So, unless you happen to be some kind of rejected (or was that retired) cell
phone design engineer with unlimited access to all kinds of really cool
analog toys that could dial anything in to equal or better standards then
this won't ever be an issue. On the other hand, if you are, it won't be an
issue until you get ramp checked, then you may have to prove the above
qualifications.
do not archive as this probably qualifies as drivel, dribble, and whatever
else the list cops seem to be upset about this week.
Actually, while we are on that subject, I do fail to see why a rolling
conversation that eventually leads to a good idea which may in fact save a
few airplanes from damage, and most definately creates another reason for us
to get together and use our airplanes is not related to RVs and is
considered to be unuseful.
After many years of being on this list I would say the only post that ever
causes me any distress are those which display a significant lack of
tolerance towards each other. The rest of it has use, some where, some how.
In spite of the fact that you might not find it useful and relevant to the
building and flying process, someone else will.

The cutout as depicted seems to provide plenty of light on the ground,
expecially with the -7(a) and -9(a). You could cut out a little more if you
want but the lens that comes with the installation kit may not cover it.
There is extra glass that is normally cut off, I would just advise caution.

Hey Bob,
I love Dagget stories. My first time into Dagget was in a cherokee, had to
keep it at 60% power just to get there and 40% to stay there after a
vertical landing.
Then an old buddy of mine told me about landing there in a brand new
cherokee delivering it for someone and it flipped inverted just after
touchdown but the damage wasn't that great to the airframe as the plane
wasn't moving.
Who says Kalifornia doesn't have weather...
This last trip in CO I got to land on the alternate runway at Ft. Collins
due to a T-cell dump and I would guess my roll out was less than 600ft given
the slight uphill and 30kt headwind.
Did anyone buy that boat yet? I'm ready to give it a go... maybe we could
convince the seller that we need to give it a test drive first.

Just an FYI on this Engine:
It appears to have been involved in the following accident (based on the
N-number on the aircraft logbook).
http://www2.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20040803X01125&key=1
On July 4, 2004, about 1700 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 172N, N10DJ,
received substantial damage during the landing roll out at the Grand Canyon
Airport, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. The certificated private pilot was not
injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and the airplane was not
operating on a flight plan. The local personal flight, which departed Cherry
Springs Airport (5G6), Galeton, Pennsylvania, was conducted under 14 CFR Part
91.
According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector, the pilot
elected to perform a precautionary landing at Grand Canyon Airport due to
deteriorating weather conditions in the area. While landing on runway 28, the
airplane veered off the right side of the runway and impacted a hay bail.

Subject: | maual not matching kit...RV8 |
--> RV-List message posted by: CBRxxDRV@aol.com
Here is my problem.
Purchased a "untouched empennage kit.
Packing list is dated 11/97
Manual is dated 03/03
I think this untouched kit was touched enough to lose the manual
and someone replaced it with this new manual.
Most times this would be just fine but I have instructions for match hole
and the kit is pre-punched. My rear HS spar is drilled and is now clecoed
together
and it went well. My front HS spar that came with the kit is a HS602 (this
spar is untrimed and undrilled) the instructions call for a HS702 which is
drilled and
trimmed. Also my HS810 is just an undrilled piece of angle and
my HS814 is also undrilled but is precut.
Anyone have instructions for and early RV8 kit ? I guess I can
get through this, but step by step would be nice and keep me from
replacing parts I screw up. I have the manual from my RV4 but
.....wow they have improved.

Mr. Hester,
While driving to the airport this evening, I realized the sketch should
show the

update tomorrow.
Shipping added the installation drawing to the back of the Illustrated parts
list that we send with our parking brake valves (always sent with retail
sales). We will also be including them now on sales to our distributors.

Actually, you need to show the acceptable range on both sides of
center. For example, the drawing shows the 45 degree angle - what
happens beyond this angle? There should be a travel range shown for
"released" and a range shown for "locked".

much interest in doing the work. One doesn't want to touch a homebuilt
and the other can't work me into his schedule. I live in Bakersfield, Ca.
Anyone have a favorite shop within an hours flight time of Bakersfield?
Thanks, David Ahrens

The drawing I received from George R. Happ at Matco Mfg. does show this.
I sent the drawing into the RV-List but it has not showed up yet. So I
put it on my web site:

Bobby,
Thanks for posting this! This drawing confirms my suspicion that the
lever travel is not critical at all and there is no need to limit
travel to 45.

Dave Morss did mine. He's based at San Carlos (KSQL) and you may be able to
track him down on the web.
