I appreciate this thread. I had thought about buying one of their units;
but, I'm not sure, now. I may just stick with what I know. The XCOM may be
a dandy product; but, it's only as good as the product support.

Michael had responded promptly to previous e-mails in the year before
release of the radio. I originally ordered it through Aircraft Spruce, but
when they finally had stock, they phoned me to say that due to the rise in
the Aussie dollar the price was increased, however the increase was way out
of line with the current exchange rates so I cancelled my order and ordered
instead directly
from XCOM. I received a confirmation email the next day
(good business practice) then nothing else for months. I just assumed a
backlog of orders and I was too busy to really need it anyways. Then 2 weeks
ago Visa phoned me to say there was large charge from overseas at 2am
pacific time and if I was expecting it. When they said it was from XCOM, I
hesitated due to the lack of correspondence from them, and all the negative
email on the RV list, but decided to take the chance. The next day I emailed

Dear Listers:
I have a problem that maybe everyone else should be made aware of in case you decide
to install the Control Vision EXP BUS center. I had
Blue Sky Aviation do my electrical and upon initial run up I cycled the
Alt switch to check the alternator and blew all the resistors in the following
gauges, Tach (Van's) impulse, Both fuel gauges, fuel pressure,
oil pressure, oil temp. We called Van's and was told of a probable
compatibilty problem with the 60amp internal regulated alternator with
use of the EXP BUS system. Has anyone else heard of this? I've heard
of some other issues regarding the Bus not sure if related.

I've seen references to a "robbins" heat muff for carb heat. Is this the
same unit that comes with
the vetterman exhaust for cabin heat? Van's has a strap on type carb heat
muff that looks simple
but maybe not as effective. Are those of you with either type getting enough
heat? I have no interest
in letting ice form having experienced it once in a C-150 and many times in
my old F-150

I riveted a tab to the lower longerons. The only thing I'd have done
differently would have been to make sure I had enough room to perform the
riveting operation reasonably (duh!!!)

Listers,
I now have 50+ hours of experience with the Softcomm 2 place mono intercom
ATC-2P, hooked up to the SL-30 in my -7.
It works great. some info I needed and could only find after contacting
Softcomm:
1. All grounds on ATC-2P are interchangeable.
2. Hook the ATC-2P mic out to the #1 mic input of the Garmin SL-30.
3. The mic 2 input of the Garmin can be left open.
4. Wire pin 13 & 7 to radio ground also and you should be fine.
5. On the pin-out sheet # 22 is for 7th mic input, which there isnt so there
is no connection. (wire is black/brown).
The Softcomm people were very e-mail responsive, and the unit works as
advertised. I can connect my walkman to the audio-in, or use the audio-out
to record all inflight communications.
Although the unit is mono and not stereo, with all the noise in the cockpit
(RVs are LOUD), mono is just fine, at least for my de-sensitized ears using
Peltor 7006.
One last point:
I strongly believe that the built in intercom in the SL-30 would have been
just fine, albeit without the audio-in/out abilities of the ATC-2P.

In an effort to build a RV that I can live with noise wise I was planning to use the RV with muffler exhaust as shown here. http://www.aircraftexhaust.net/rv_exhaust.html
However, other than viewing very limited information on the web site and talking
to them at Oshkosh I know too little to actually make a purchase.
So- does anyone have any experience with their products, especially the system
with mufflers I will appreciate any comments.

The ID of the SB437-4 snap bushing is .335. A ridge running around the edge reduces
them to .25. I also needed a bit larger hole for my wing wiring but did
not want to enlarge any existing holes in the aluminum so I drilled the ridge
to 5/16 with the unibit. Almost the 3/8 you said you would be happy with Mickey.

problem.
Changed to the 55(?)/60(?) amp alternator from Van's about 200+ hours ago.

I just flew with the new Lowrance 2000C for the first time, and am very happy
with it. The size of the screen is extremely useful even mounted on the
other side of the cockpit, and its visibility in direct sunlight is outstanding.
The color helps to sort out the huge amount of data in the database. I am
sure that there are some little features that are not exactly as everyone would
like them, but it is a great unit.
And the price from ACS was less than $900!

Here is what I would recommend. Fill the oil system by turning the engine
over -- first by hand then with the starter motor. Do this after removing the
top plug from each cylinder. Disable the mags to protect them since they are
not firing the plugs. The safest way to disable the mags is to leave the mag
switch off. Don't turn the fuel valve on. Turn the engine over by hand until
you get tired, then run the starter by turning on the master switch and using
a jumper wire at the starter relay until you see some oil pressure on the
gauge. When you see some oil pressure the oil system will be filled with oil,
and
the engine will get oil pressure immediately when it starts. Don't run the
starter for over about 20 seconds at a time. Let it cool off for a few minutes
between runs if you have to. Then put the plugs back in and fire it up!
I'm sure there will be lots of other opinions, this is just mine!
