I originally ordered it through Aircraft Spruce, but when they finally had stock, they phoned me to say that due to the rise in the Aussie dollar the price was increased, however the increase was way out of line with the current exchange rates so I cancelled my order and ordered instead directly from XCOM. I received a confirmation email the next day (good business practice) then nothing else for months. I just assumed a backlog of orders and I was too busy to really need it anyways. I had Blue Sky Aviation do my electrical and upon initial run up I cycled the Alt switch to check the alternator and blew all the resistors in the following gauges, Tach (Van's) impulse, Both fuel gauges, fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp. We called Van's and was told of a probable compatibilty problem with the 60amp internal regulated alternator with use of the EXP BUS system. Has anyone else heard of this? It works great. some info I needed and could only find after contacting Softcomm: 1. All grounds on ATC-2P are interchangeable. 2. Hook the ATC-2P mic out to the #1 mic input of the Garmin SL-30. 3. The mic 2 input of the Garmin can be left open. 4. Wire pin 13 & 7 to radio ground also and you should be fine. 5. On the pin-out sheet # 22 is for 7th mic input, which there isnt so there is no connection. (wire is black/brown). The Softcomm people were very e-mail responsive, and the unit works as advertised. I can connect my walkman to the audio-in, or use the audio-out to record all inflight communications. Although the unit is mono and not stereo, with all the noise in the cockpit (RVs are LOUD), mono is just fine, at least for my de-sensitized ears using Peltor 7006. One last point: I strongly believe that the built in intercom in the SL-30 would have been just fine, albeit without the audio-in/out abilities of the ATC-2P. Amit. http://messenger.msn.com/

I also needed a bit larger hole for my wing wiring but did not want to enlarge any existing holes in the aluminum so I drilled the ridge to 5/16 with the unibit. The size of the screen is extremely useful even mounted on the other side of the cockpit, and its visibility in direct sunlight is outstanding. The color helps to sort out the huge amount of data in the database. I am sure that there are some little features that are not exactly as everyone would like them, but it is a great unit. Disable the mags to protect them since they are not firing the plugs. The safest way to disable the mags is to leave the mag switch off. Don't turn the fuel valve on. Turn the engine over by hand until you get tired, then run the starter by turning on the master switch and using a jumper wire at the starter relay until you see some oil pressure on the gauge. When you see some oil pressure the oil system will be filled with oil, and the engine will get oil pressure immediately when it starts. Don't run the starter for over about 20 seconds at a time. Let it cool off for a few minutes between runs if you have to. Then put the plugs back in and fire it up! I'm sure there will be lots of other opinions, this is just mine!
