Subject: List Contributors Lagging By 38%...
--> RV-List message posted by: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com> Dear Listers, The percentage of people making a Contribution to support the Lists this year is currently lagging behind last year by approximately 38%! I'm hoping that everyone is just waiting until the last minute to show their support... ;-) Please remember that its solely your direct Contributions that keep these Lists up and running and most importantly - AD FREE! If the members don't want to support the Lists directly, then I will likely have to start adding advertisements to offset the costs of running the Lists. But I *really* don't want to have to start doing that. I really like the non-commercial atmosphere here and I think that a lot of the members appreciate that too. Won't you please take a moment to make a contribution today in support of the continued ad-free operation of all these Lists? http://www.matronics.com/contribution I want to send out a word of appreciation to all of the members that have already made their generous contribution to support the Lists! Thank you! Subject: Wheel pants drag and height
--> RV-List message posted by: "jbker@juno.com" <jbker@juno.com> I think the best compromise on height is to raise them until you can put minimum gap clearance. It is the leakage into and out of the pants that causes the largest contributor to drag IMHO. Bill Davis did a beautiful job of fitting the sides right up against the lower part of the outer rim. You do not have to allow for flat or slack tires in this position. You are also at a point where you are crossing the tire fore and aft that does not deflect much so you can tighten the gap safely there also. I am considering adding a single layer of FG to close it further and it will be sacrificed with a slack tire landing. Bernie Kerr, now running rotary engine on 9A, have not taxied yet.

--> RV-List message posted by: "glaesers" <glaesers@wideopenwest.com> I was thinking about retractable tie-down rings instead of the screw-in type. I did a bunch of searching and couldn't find anything available, so I started doodling myself. Here is an initial concept: http://www.wideopenwest.com/~glaesers/TieDown.html Has anyone seen or done anything similar on an RV? I'm not building yet, so I haven't figured out where, or how, I would mount this. But since tie-downs are being discussed, I figured I'd toss this out for comments. Dennis Glaeser

Cessna has some retractable tiedowns that fold up into the fairing at the top of the wing strut. If you want a simple solution ...... just unscrew the tiedown when not in use. I know racers do that to cut down on drag. They even put a little Avery dot over the hole! Linn do not archive > > > >

--> RV-List message posted by: MnwPeeps@aol.com I have a slightly damaged 6A that may require a little more time and hustle to repair than I'm interested in spending. I might well consider an offer here, for what might be considered a relatively minor "project." Full IFR, great plane - needs prop, spinner, nose gear, and likely an engine look-see. located near Portsmouth, NH. Write for details - I may be not near a phone for a few days. Don

--> RV-List message posted by: "LarryRobertHelming" <lhelming@sigecom.net> The original was on the aeroelectric-list and has just about run its course for the last few days. Seems many there think the Zip Ties ( aka tie wraps ) should not be used FWF and adel clamps are the way to go. Others hold the view they are handy, convenient, and low cost although somewhat less than reliable in the longer run. Jerry, sorry for the confusion I caused by posting it to the RV-List. It is RV related as I see it however.
