Dittos on the Battery Tender, Jr. on a Panasonic RG battery.
I have an iPAQ in the plane that stays hooked up to the bus fulltime
(the iPAQ's battery has expired and it costs too much to replace it).
The charger pigtail is near the oil filler door along with the oil sump
heater plug and both run continuously during the winter months.

Only in "Beta" testing right now, but if this really works, I'd say this is
something worth considering!
While on the subject of headsets, the latest "wave" seems to be non-ANR
sets, based on the elegant idea that if you manage to keep the noise from
entering the ear in the first place, then there is nothing to cancel with
reverse-phase-sound-waves.
The new sets are based on tiny speakers that are attached to a foam-like ear
plug. the EAR(tm) plugs have an NRR of ~30dB, which is close to that of some
high end ANR sets. You get quiteness and a VERY lightweight set. The
difficulty seams to be in inserting the ear plugs into your ears for them to
work right, but practice makes perfect.

The only difference I found was $100. According to Phil McCandless at QT,
they make the L1s for Lightspeed...

combination, cranking the intercom volume up all the way.

of view? When I'm issued the Operating Limitations, it would say Day VFR
only. How would you get that changed to read Day/Night VFR?

Make sure your Operating Limitations say "day VFR, night VFR and/or IFR in
accordance with FAR..." or something to that effect. You can find specific
example by searchig the web - and the (D)AE's will want a specific verbage.

Lucky, it all depends on how you and the 'chute will fit in the
airplane. A backpack will push you forward, closer to the panel and the
stick, and the seat pack will raise you up in the cockpit ..... closer
to the canopy. Both types will save your bacon if you need to use it,
so it all boils down to ergonomics. Oh yeah, the seat pack makes for a
very hard seat that no cusion will take care of!

It's easy to get this all backwards. When high velocity air comes in
thru the cowling "nostrils" it enters a diffuser section where the velocity drops
and the STATIC PRESSURE RISES! This static pressure is what drives the air
down through the cylinder fins. It is also this pressure which forces air
though the oil cooler.
The tradeoff from dynamic to static pressure is not total as there
remains a small velocity component.
This is why the upper cowling is shaped like a diffuser, to recover
pressure from the relative velocity of the incoming air.

Mat,
It may not say VFR only. Most all the current versions of the Operating
Limitations have wording similiar to "Unless appropriately equipped for
night and/or IFR, this aircraft is restricted to Day VFR." That means that
you, the pilot, make the decision. Of course, that decision is based on the
pilot's knowledge FAR 91.205, right??
If, at the time of certification, the Operating Limitations do state that
the aircraft is restricted to Day VFR, then you can ask the inspector to
change the wording to align with the requirements of FAA Order 8130.2F.

I recently looked at the page on my 430 which shows total miles flown,
average speed, etc. What seems interesting is that it shows maximum ground
speed attained is 288 knots. I'm really sure that hasn't happened, but I'm
curious as to how it would have gotten that number. For a couple years, it
showed 228 knot, a reasonable number.

That is correct. An inexpensive "dumb" charger can go to too high
of a voltage. The float voltage is dependant on temperature, but Hawker
recommends 13.6 volts for their AGM batteries.
I should note that in general, AGMs have very low self-discharge
rates. That is, they stay charged pretty long on the shelf. Thus, if there
is no draw (like for the memory in your radio) you would only need to top
off your AGM two or three times per year, perhaps less.

I have a set of the Auricomm's and I love 'em. Very lightweight and
comfortable, great sound, easy to forget that I'm wearing them. I'd never go
back to a set of heavy, sweaty muffs squeezing my head.
They do take a little practice to learn the easy way to insert them so
that
the mike boom is perfect, but it's easy to do. The only time they were a
little bit of a pain was while taxi testing, when I was climbing in & out of
the plane.

The only difference I found was $100. According to Phil McCandless at QT,
they make the L1s for Lightspeed...
I have not tried any of these, nor do I get paid to ramble about them.
Personally I like my passive peltors with regular yellow earplugs
combination, cranking the intercom volume up all the way.

Pro's for the tip over:
simple
light
better visibility
easier ingress/egress
Pro's for the slider:
safety in fixed windscreen (thanks Doug)
safety in stronger windscreen (my original reason for exploring this option)
cool factor (well, it does count; doesn't it?)
My reasoning so far goes like this: I think I can build a slider with very
little to no weight penalty to a tip-over; and I like having that fixed
windscreen in case of a bird strike; and I have significantly changed my
cockpit layout such that ingress/egress to the pilot would be fine with the
slider. I also think I can build the canopy bow to minimize visibility
impairment and drag (all composite bow and canopy frame/skirt). So far the
slider is winning. Any more input ??

This recently came up on the Cirrus forum, because most of the
airplanes are set up to datalog (engine, airdata, and GPS coordinates)
every 6 seconds and store about forty hours worth of data. Several
people noticed that the airplanes seemed to have made some _very_ quick
trips to Kansas and back.
It turns out the the generic "startup" waypoint in the GNS430
corresponds to the Garmin factory in Kansas ("GARMN") Occasionally
this gets logged as an actual position, depending on how fast the unit
acquires a fix, and how fast the datalogger boots.

I would say that they were very effective. Unfortunately I took them off in
an act of desperation to get my cyl head temps down only to find the culprit
was the casting flash that was a thread on this list about a week later.
Cleaning the flashing made about 30 degree difference.

Does anyone make a rivnut that is both countersunk in the back to go in a
dimpled hole and also countersunk on the face so you can attach an access
plate that is dimpled with a countersunk screw? I was thinking of trying to
countersink a regular rivnut, but it doesn't look like there is near enough
material on the head to do this.

Hi all, I'm just about ready to attach my flaps to the wings but I haven't riveted
on the bottom skins yet. Is it necessary to rivet the bottom skins on first
to accurately drill the flap hinge or can I use a heap of clecoes on the skin.
I'd prefer to leave the skins off for as long as possible so I can take longer
to decide on wiring and also I haven't got my pitot tube yet (waiting for the
heated Dynon). It would be good to drill it out now so I can get on with the
countersinking dimpling etc. and then finally prime the flap brace etc. and put
it on the shelf until I'm ready to rivet.
Also which kit has the NACA duct that is glued/riveted under the wing, it would
be nice to put that on now before the skin is riveted on.
