I am thinking of turning the standard Van's wing tips into aux fuel tanks.
Has anybody else done this ? or is there something that would make it impractical.
I have seen the Australian tip tanks that van's is re-selling, but cant manage
them on my budget.
Also does anyone know if the standard tips are epoxy or polyester, or how to pick
the difference, as I have been told I need to use epoxy to make them fuel
proof.

I think you want to use polyester isophthalate resin (with surface curing agent
added to final coat) to make fuel-proof tanks; not epoxy.

Is it just my machine, or do you see odd color depictions of weather radar
displays on ADDS...the color intensity bar on the left is all wrong, and
green seems to be the only color being used in any radar picture.
Check out and post your results please. Two different browsers give me the
same result...other web site colors are all normal. hmmm....???

After flying -4's for about 9 years, I'm working hard to find storage
volume anywhere I can in the -7 & the wingtips make nice lockers for
stuffable items like sleeping bags or multiple small items like oil,
tools, etc.
I used a technique similar to Todd's to add aux fuel to the leading
edges of my -7 wings (under construction). Added weight is about 2-3 lbs
per tank with around 13-14 gal per side (3 wet bays). This is more added
capacity than really needed (& a lot of work), & in retrospect I might
have used a fabricated tube through the lightening holes if I were
starting today.

It is my understanding that even untinted canopy plastic reduces some of the
wavelengths of harmful UV. Perhaps contacting the acrylic plastic makers
could provide confirmation of this. The only reason I like the Koger shade is
for the heat reduction it provides, I never have gotten sunburned while
flying.

Ok thanks for the info - everyone else is normal...had to be me...it was...I
have "accelerator" service from Peoplepc.com and using the fastest
acceleration to speed up dial-up service causes this..I reset it to "normal"
(slowest) and all is back to regular colors on all radar displays.
Live and learn...(slowly sometimes.)

I have to agree. My insurance rates have gone down every year until this
year...they went up. Not only did they go up, Phoenix will not renew
policies on RV's. I'm not sure what's going on, but I don't think it is a
design issue.

Unfortunately you can almost guarantee that it is pilot error. The last one
in Colorado reportedly had unforgivable CG and fuel issues.

Sorry, Glass blocks UV, plexi does not. I'm guessing, but I suspect that
the tint makes no difference. I can attest to some vicious sunburns from a
bubble canopy.
There are treated acrylics that are protected from damaging UV for longer
life, and treated acrylics that are intended to protect art from UV. I'd go
to the source of the canopies for info on UV treatment, but I'm doubtful
they are UV blocked.

All of the pictures I take through the canopy have a sort of washed out look
and have to be adjusted to make color look better. I have assumed it was the
canopy filtering out something-not my technique. Maybe I'm wrong.
