You're on your way. How do I know? My RV 6A just flew last week!! I have fond memories of doing the EMP. Hang in there, you're gonna love that plane. Werner" Subject: Re: RV-List: Resale values-horsepower --> RV-List message posted by: "Konrad L. Werner" In regards to higher Horsepower on low octane fuel, here is one other way. A friend of mine had a carbureted engine built up for his Bearhawk, it uses an 0-360 case with low compression pistons, but with the "Angle-Valve" Heads of the IO-360 Series. He burns regular Autogas and it should develop 180HP+ (as per the builder). So there you have a solid 180HP running on low octane regular gas. These angle valve heads are somewhat heavier than the parallel valve versions, but breathe much better and therefore compensate for the lowered compression. But 168HP will be more then plenty anyway, with some weight savings too. This engine runs on 80/87 octane and puts out 168 horsepower. If 100LL suddenly gets real scarce, or totally unaffordable, I intend to convert my 180 HP ECI clone engine to this configuration and run autogas in it. Still gives me about 20 extra ponies compared to an 0-320 running autogas (150 HP). I do agree though that 150 HP is plenty of oomph for our little fun machines. Do not install an engine with less than 180 HP. IMO, I would not even look at it so it has ZERO value to me. Applies to RV-6, -7 as well >>> As nice as a big motor might be, being able to run mogas in a low-comp engine might go a long way to twisting a prospects arm! Checked Airnav ga$ lately? 150 hp O-320s still kick PLENTY of butt! 8-) Mark - do not archive ! -- ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 11:42:07 AM PST US From: splevy@l-band-systems.com Subject: RV-List: Garmin GPS 396 --> RV-List message posted by: splevy@l-band-systems.com Has anyone actually hooked up a 396 to GTX330 transponder and gotten the traffic display to work? I have been trying without success, and receiving no useful help from Garmin. Tried two different 396's and two different 330's. All seem to give the "waiting for data" message which indicates, according to the manual, that a valid data stream has not been received. It should show "data unavailable" which means connection to the transponder established, but no TIS is available. Twice it has announced "TIS unavailable" when descending below the radar coverage altitude. No other audio messages or alerts. These tests have been done in a Mode-S TIS area. Information from anyone who has done it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Can anybody tell me what this is and if it is a requirement to confirm this when 'tagging' a 'case? My question is prompted by a broken crank story in an alternate engine. I cannot believe combustion pressures alone can induce sufficient bending to cause a crank failure after ~20 hours nitrided or not. See http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/ for the story, sorry it is unrelated to RVs. Doug Gray
