Is it just me or do CS props make a lot more noise on take off?

I just tested my Van's gauges with the SW sending units. At 2.5gal they read 2.5
gal. At 5 gal the left gauge read 4.5gal, the right read 6 gal. In my opinion,
an erratic reading is unacceptable & probably indicates a faulty sending
unit. An erroneous but consistent reading can be corrected by a placard.

Hi All,
I've just started working on my fuel sending units and tested both outside
the tank, attached to a fuel gauge. They are the stock Stewart Warner and
Vans gauge. One has a drop out, to empty, at about 3 gallons on the gauge,
the other at 12 gallons, then comes back. Should I send them back or is
normal for all at some point or does it really matter.

I know of one particular C-172 with an H2AD that went 3854 hours between
overhauls, no top overhaul or anything of that nature (serious maintenance.)
It could have kept on going had the owner not worried about liability. It
never saw anything but Phillips X/C oil. The only thing that ever went
wrong with the engine was a worn magneto cam, requiring a precautionary
landing. This was also on a rental airplane that was regularly used and
abused, started frequently in cold conditions.

I feel very comfortable behind Lycoming power. 40 years ago I ran them
in Pawnee sprayers at full power for long periods of time. The engine in
my RV came out of a competition Pitt's. Its first 500 hours of time, I
ran it at 3000 to 3200 rpms constantly except for spins. I cruised it
cross country at 2800 and continuously shock cooled it during acro. The
last compression, it was 80/80 on all cylinders. (Total Seal rings) I
suspect the Cam will have to be replaced when I tear it down along with
all the other goodies that tend to drain the bank account.

Usually cheap fuel can be had at SYI (15nm NW, hosts b'fast 4th Sat & my home
base- great field!) and BGF (15nm SE, hosts b'fast 1st Sat) THA is former
B-24 training base with HUGE amount of ramp space- should turn out to be a good
event!
