Never happen. You'd be asking pilots to memorize two letters of Morse and have their lives depend on not getting them mixed up anywhere along the approach course :-) My earlier "no code" comments were, of course, a tongue-in-cheel reference to a controversey that was once swirling in ham radio circles and has now been laid to rest for us by the powers than be. -Stormy glad to be living in the gilded age of cockpit glass tech for the little guy :-) -----Original Message----- Sent: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 8:06 PM Piffle. All this high tech VOR/morse code nonsense - If we were *real* pilots we'd go back to the A/N range. Ed Bundy do not archive We all had to learn it to ID the VOR stations, right? Now they print the dits and dahs on the sectional, allowing "no-code" technicians (airplane drivers) to fly without having to do all that memorization. That's someone's idea of progress, no doubt. ________________________________________________________________________

Unrelated to RV's except that mowing the runway at Hop-Along for the last 8 years has undoubtedly played a major role in wearing out my Husqvarna ;-) Bottom line: my tired old 42"/15 hp tractor is fast becoming a basket case, with stuff falling off and no longer cuts cleanly - we've renamed it the lawn-chewer. I need a new mower and I need it soon. While I'm at it, an upgrade to 48" or 54" cut seems like an affordable luxury at my age; I've got quite a few acres to groom. What I'm asking the List for is any strong recommendations, good or bad, about the various models and brands of yard tractors out there. If you've been very happy with yours and would never give it up, or if you've made an impulse buy on a brand you swear you'll never buy again, I'd like to hear about it before I hit the big city tonight for my shopping adventure. If you know of any chain stores running great sales on a model you like, I'd appreciate knowing that, too. Thanks, guys. I hope in my own small way I've given us something to talk about besides how much we wish we were in Wisconsin this week, being rained on in our tents, and wondering how we were going to pick our way home through the occluded frontal systems, etc. <g> -Stormy certainly do not archive ________________________________________________________________________

--> RV-List message posted by: "Bill Schlatterer" <billschlatterer@sbcglobal.net> True story about a real estate appraiser who was called to court as a expert witness. It seems that a lady bought a lot and built a home next door to a home with 6 dogs. The dogs had been there for years, didn't bark abnormally, but did tear up the yard but hey, it's their yard. For some reason the folks decided they needed another dog and the neighbor took it as the final straw. She took them to court claiming "diminuation of value". Etc. After conferring with the appraiser, the judge noted that the dogs were there before she was and that after 6 dogs, one more just doesn't matter. After looking at the pictures, it seems to me that you have a lot of dogs in your neighborhood and one more just shouldn't matter. Keep after 'em. I have also added to the questions section. Look at www.jaxairplane.com. I really want to thank all of the people that have sent emails of support on this. I wish tat I could reply to each one individually, but I have literally hundreds and hundreds of emails and I can't reply to all of them. I also want to thank a lot of the people that have voiced their opinion and sided against me. With few exceptions, those giving an opinion different than mine have been courteous and not started an email flame war. It takes courage to express your opinion even when it goes against the general flow. In my fight against the city I am the one swimming upstream and I know how important it is to not just sit back and listen and to express your own opinion. Love our Wheel Horse with 60 inch cut, power steering, cruise control, hydraulic deck lift. It even trims pretty well. It cost me $5K used (like new), but it was money well spent. Dan Hopper RV-7A do not archive

Being a ham and a pilot, I remember that when the government closed the Coast Guard station at 500 KHz, that they were supposed to be completely out of the International Morse code business. I guess they forgot about the VOR and VLF beacon IDers. By the way did you know that about 1 out of 600 Americans is a pilot, and about 1 out of 600 Americans is a ham? Now, how many are both? I don't know. Dan K9WEK RV-7A do not archive

Check out the John Deere 2305. It's a SERIOUS "lawn mower" with either a mid or rear mower deck (I use the mid), and you can also get some pretty handy attachments including a front loader and a box blade, both great for runway maintenance. In reality, it's really a compact tractor rather than a lawn mower. With a 24hp diesel engine, this one will probably last long enough to dig my own grave when the time comes, and then they can bury me with it :-) Vern RV-7A QB Houston, TX

It will out last me as long as I take care of it. Jim Nelson

I had a switch go bad (would not start) and a week ago something happened where it will not go into gear (engine runs fine and the blades will spin). Problem not yet corrected and the weeds/grass must know it because they just started growing faster. One problem from the beginning is that it could go faster. This is really for lawn tractor racing since I slow down for cutting grass/weeds. I probably would get it again but with most things quality is good and usually costs more than what I paid. You indicated you were headed to the box stores for a mower. I would avoid MTD. Personally I'd consider a zero turn mower. They are well made and likely will reduce your cutting time by half over the rider you are using now. The down side is that they are expensive.
