Won't actual OIL (petroleum) cause dust & dirt to be attracted? May be some dry (soap like) Teflon lube, like Boeing lube? Any experts? __________________________________________________ ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 09:30:25 AM PST US From: "LarryRobertHelming" Subject: Re: RV-List: registration results I don't believe the weight and balance will be correct, nor would my air worthiness certificate be granted unless I had an engine attached to make it an airplane. And, I would not fly it without instruments. This sales/use tax avoidance advice is starting to make me ill. I am considering disconnecting from this group because I do not like the thought of being associated with people who suggest to everyone it is ok to break the rules.. Hope this hurts and gets your attention Dick -- from where I sit, you are suggesting that everyone join you in violating the law. That will not justify your actions because maybe a hundred of others do it too. I guess it is ok for the government to just arbitrarily take money from us wherever, whenever, however they want and we should just roll over and take it with Vaseline. I find that I am more talented at spending my money constructively than our government leaders. Come to think of it, we are probably far less criminal than thnose we vote into office. Ever wonder why anyone would spend millions to get a job that pays thousands of dollars a year? There's got to be something behind that. Larry, if it bothers you that some of us do the best we can to avoid giving all of our worldly wealth to the government to squander as they see fit, maybe you do need to move on. Hopefully, you were just kidding; and, your joke just didn't come out the way you intended. Give this some thought. The rich folks pay other folks to help them find ways to avoid paying taxes. Most of us can't afford that; but, avoiding taxes is universal. I'd just like to figure out a way to keep from paying income tax on retirement income. That's money I can't spend on toys. :-( Jim in KY do not archive! ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 12:33:57 PM PST US From: Darrell Reiley Subject: Re: RV-List: registration results We'll miss you Larry. A more practical point: A few years ago United Airplines was considering building a huge maintenance/overhaul base and to intice them to come to Colorado the state legislature enacted a law that exempts aircraft parts from sales taxes. Guess what: A homebuilt experimental aircraft is made up of 'aircraft parts' so we don't pay any tax upon registration. At one time Colorado did have a plane sticker/tax but it cost more to administer the program than it produced so the provision was cancelled. Overall result: no taxes of any sort on our planes. (But if you purchase a plane its a different story.) FWIW Happy Holidays. I notcide that most of them are installed upside down (head lower than the nut). This engine is as Bart Lalonde gave it to me. I thought all bolts in a plane were supposed to be installed ith the head on top if at all possible. It's also easier to torque the bolt to the proper value if the nut is in the bottom where you can get to it with a socket wrench+extendion. BTW: What is the proper torque value for the oil sump bolts? -- Tom S. In this case I don't think it matters which way the bolts go. You can probably torque the bolts instead of the nuts and it will be just fine, IMHO. The proper torque from the Lycoming Overhaul Manual is 75 inch pounds. In my case, I bought my engine from an individual, thus no sales tax. My Garmin 430 and numerous other pieces and part, ie., strode flash unit from the flymart at Oshkosh (another individual), thus no sale tax. Nowhere in my posts have I ever said to simply not pay property or sales tax. What I do for a living is minimize, not avoid, my client's tax liability. On this note, it will be me who places the value for property tax, DO-2, I'll pay the use tax on invoiced items from business entities only. Both of those are within tax law. I will not pay one penny more. Pretty simple in my book. I'm not into giving them any freebees.
