I know that the guys at Van's read this list, and I'll bet that they wish they were allowed to reply! Don't let all this go to your head Tom! Bruce, you are great to talk to. Van (or Tom?) should give you a raise! Service like this is what sells those airplane kits. I have also received very good advice from all of the guys at Van's. I can imagine that they get kind of tired of answering the same questions over and over, so it must take a lot of patience. After a long day of answering questions its easy to see why they may sometimes seem a little irritated. Hang in there you Van's guys. You have fantastic airplanes, and a wonderful group of builders and flyers. Thanks to all of you. do not archive Dan Hopper RV-7A -- flying since July 2004 ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

I have a crack starting on the trailing edge of the rudder of my RV6. It is about 11=94 down from the top starting at the rivet and going back. It is about =BD=94 long. I have heard of this before but does somebody have a =93simple=94 repair for this. I looked in the archives but for some reason did not find anything. You can answer off list. Since I inadvertently started this thread with my "Still waiting on Bluemountain" comment I thought it only fair that I say that the G4 EFIS did arrive and it is a impressive piece of work. Haven't flown it yet but everything appears to work on the bench and so far I can't confuse the HSI no matter how much I rock & roll the panel. It took awhile but I think Bluemountain is finally ready for prime time. The engine pod for the engine monitor is a marvel of installation simplicity but I miss the user calibration capability that the earlier models had. You are pretty much stuck using only BMA supplied sensors with the G4. Maybe they will relent and add this capability in a future software release. Various outlets have what are called "click bond patches". I've never seen one, but my understanding is that they are small patches with a proprietary adhesive which can be used to create hardpoints for attaching hardware when there isn't a convenient spot. Also, they can be used for patches - internal and external. You should stop drill and deburr the end of the crack before you try the click bond patch. Here's a link to one product that might work: http://www.theflightshop.com/ClickBond/Menu_Click_Patches.php KB ----- Original Message ----- From: J. R. Should have said "can't confuse the artificial horizon" in that last message. The HSI is mainly driven by the magnetometer when on the bench. The earths' magnetic field is pretty stable no matter what you do. That's to reduce the flexing that causes the crack. (The 'electrical grade' caulk is to keep someone from telling you that your rudder is going to dissolve in the acid of regular RTV.) ;-) Charlie
