I once tried to order on-line a small gas-charged strut to hold the front baggage
door of my RV-8 open. Soon after I placed the order I got a call from the
company. They noticed my address was on Aviation Lane and wondered if this was
an airport and was the gas strut to be used on an airplane? I answered in the
affirmative before giving it enough thought and they promptly declined to fill
my order! I tried to explain the experimental nature of my project but that
was beyond their comprehension.

One other thing, when dealing with a non-aviation company, never tell them
their product will be used on an airplane, you're building a hot rod, boat,

Subject: | Oshkosh RV BBQ Update |
All credential packs have now been mailed to the 170+ people who've registered
for the RV Builder's Family Reunion during AirVenture at Oshkosh on Wednesday
July 25, starting at 6 p.m.
When you receive your packet, please drop me a line (the e-mail address will be
on the enclosed letter) to let me know you received it. Please check to be sure
the envelope contains tickets for the BBQ (which also doubles as a door prize
ticket, even though I don't really know for sure if we have any), and a BBQ
badge so other people will know who you are.
Updates on the BBQ (including news on the tent...this is big, as far as I'm concerned)
are on the Web site at:
http://home.comcast.net/~bcollinsrv7a/eaa/
The organizers would like to thank those of you who registered early. You have
no idea how much this helps us order the correct amount of food. The number-1
thing we heard last year is "have people pre-register!", and so that's what we're
doing.
To encourage your pre-registration (before June 1), the ticket price will increase
on June 1. Checks are not cashed until the week before AirVenture, so if you
intend to attend, there's really nothing to lose by pre-registering, and everything
to gain (unless you like standing in line). If we have underwriters for
the BBQ, those who have pre-registered will have their money returned (assuming
all expenses are covered).
There are a couple of important points for those attending:
(1) Do NOT attempt to drive into Camp Scholler, or even over to the BBQ site if
you're staying in Camp Scholler. In a week -- or so -- we'll post parking information
and details on how to get to the site (or you can just click on the link
to last year's BBQ. Same thing.)
(2) If you intend to sit, bring a chair. EAA 32 (St. Louis) is donating the use
of some tables, but these will all be taken up with the much-more-organized chow
and beer (soft drinks too) lines.
(3) If you live in the Minnesota region and can help haul a cooler (or even my
wife's grill) over to the BBQ (and back), please let me know.
(4) Make sure you let us know what you'd like to eat. Be specific and we'll make
sure we get the right kind of beer or soft-drink, or a veggie burger etc. Again,
see the Web site for more.
We look forward to seeing you. But, again, PLEASE help us out by letting us know
you're coming.

You should have told him, yes it is an airport but it is going to be
used on my "RV".

This aviation business we're in is populated with very small
entrepreneurs, many are one-man businesses. The good ones are
overwhelmed with getting the product out the door, and have little time
for "administrative" work. We're not dealing with large corporations
here, just little guys working out of their garages. Accept it for what
it is.
Craig is a super nice guy, very honest, very trustworthy, and stands
behind his product 100%. And he puts out a very nice product. My
suggestion is to just keep telephoning. Sooner or later he'll pick up
that phone.

Hi Bernie-
It seems Mr. Catto has a product in great demand within the RV community, and
an impressive backorder to fill. Be persistent- it's worth it. I'm quite
pleased with my 3-blade after 415+ hours (150 hp -6A) but if you need a prop
soon, maybe another source would be quicker! Last I heard, his deliveries were
running as much as 9 months from order, but I haven't communicated in over a
year, so it may be worse.
Good luck!
Mark

I also have a Catto prop on order and have been unsuccessful in
contacting Craig. Others have said that they have recently talked to
him. Earlier in the week I mailed a SASE asking about the status. Will
let you know if I hear back from him. I am not worried yet but he does
have $1,000 of mine.
