Actually, the consumables section in the chapter on installing and
removing the prop in the Hartzell manual specifies 0.032 SS safety
wire. This is consistent with the guidance in AC43.13-1B.

That is interesting Kevin. The manual that came with my Hartzell says 0.040
SS safety wire. The .040 is a real pain to work with...especially on the
prop bolts.

Apologies because this is going to be posted on various message boards
to make sure we hit everyone, but I've put together a 'flow chart' of
the chow line at the Oshkosh RV BBQ. It has the volunteer "assignments"
for those I'm aware of that have volunteered.
You can find it here:
http://tinyurl.com/26gvb8
Please check it out and tell me if it makes sense.
We'll probably start cooking around 5 so that there's food ready when
people arrive at 6 (and beyond). In the past, we've cooked for several
hours. So it would be great if you'd let me know how long you wish your
"shift" to last.
I would discourage folks from volunteering for more than an hour because
it's easy not to see everyone when you're cooking and running around. So
let me know which shift (6-7. 7-8, 8-9) works best for you.
I've also listed some volunteer "opportunities" we're still trying to
fill.
SALADS: We need folks who can bring a salad. You know, a bunch of
lettuce in a big bowl and jar of dressing. We have a few who have
volunteered but it would be bad form for us to have only a few dozen
servings. So if you've got a big Tupperware bowl, wouldn't mind filling
it and taking it home with you -- empty and greasy -- when done, drop me
an email. (bcollinsrv7a (at)comcast.net)

Sez right in the Hartzell manual to safety with .032 wire. I personally
observed a certain FAA person fail a prop that only used .025 wire during an
airworthiness inspection.

Interestingly my DAR told me those holes were not for safety wire and it was
not needed. I did not do it at his urging but always feel it should be
done. It was never a problem on my previous airplane with the same prop to
just do it the way you described and no protection on the wire is needed.

--> Avionics-List message posted by: "Mike@Crossbow" <msmith@xbow.com>
Due to a recent firmware update from our GPS manufacturer, Crossbow has published
a service bulletin for the NAV425EX which contains details about a possible
software update that may affect customers that are currently flying the NAV425EX.
The software update provided by the GPS subsystem manufacturer contains improvements
that eliminate the possibility of erroneous data during very specific
satellite configurations. In addition, we have made some improvements to the
magnetometer performance and BIT (built in test) status inside the NAV425EX.
You can find the full details of this service bulletin, including the units
affected using the link below.

Yea, that is what I eventually did and found the same. AvMap Italy
responded by saying Red to +'ve Black to -'ve and white to "ground"
I'm only fitting mine into my a/c because I've already cut the panel.
I am tempted to toss it on the pile at this stage as they have taken 15
months of promises to supply a Southern Africa data base at a cost (last
quote) of $300!!! plus $40 for postage!! I foolishly bought it at Sun 'n
Fun last April (06) and was promised that if I brought my card in they
would supply the Europe/Africa data for free - ha ha, was I had. They
put out a feeble one 9 months ago with no city names, a few roads and
some international airports - that was it! They talk about "their
cartographer" still researching - man any small GPS producer in this
country gets this info for nothing without doing any "research" and can
sell their product for half the price that they want to charge me for a
flash card!
Thanks for your reply Bob, much appreciated

The answer would be, yes....
You'll find plenty of RV'ers in both locations.
In Camp Scholler there are a group of RV-10'ers camping together and there
are folks camping around Bob Collins' BBQ site. You'll also find quite a
few RV'ers camping next to their aircraft.

>From what I can tell, "the action" is camping with your plane. Camp
Scholler, except for the folks who camp there, for some reason remains a
part of the Oshkosh story not well or often told. AirVenture Today (the
daily rag) doesn't come over there. The annual AirVenture video rarely
includes a scene from it. and yet, it's a huge neighborhood and, depending
on where you end up, can provide some truly wonderful moments.
The best part about Camp Scholler, in my opinion, is it affords you the
opportunity to walk up one 'street' and down the other. you'll find plenty
of folks who'll say "hey, sit down here...what can I get you?" There's
also the nightly movies and the parade up and down the street at night of
people on bikes or on gators or cars or tanks or whatever, is an interesting
show that reminds me of the Coney island Boardwalk.
I've never flown into or camped in the plane area but I suspect it's a much
different vibe. I think both should be experienced so then it's a question
of which you want to experience THIS year.
See my Oshkosh Diary -- specifically the entry for July 27 -- for more
random thoughts on Scholler
