    Subject: viton seals
It would be interesting to compare the relaxation characteristics of viton. In the buna-n seals part of what retracts the piston is the seal relaxing. It only takes a few thousandths of an inch, but that is enough to make the pads last or not. One of the problems with the DOT series is they are not interchangeable hence servicing errors cause problems. The absorbing moisture does not stop its corrosive nature but it does increase its desire to boil when hot as in gas bubbles in the line. The rate of brake fires to usage in RVs is one to roughly 20 gazillion and in all airplanes it's roughly two to 30 gazillion whereas the rate of cold WX viton seal failures is about one to 175 in space shuttle disasters. I know, I'm comparing apples to monkeyfied ferguson eggs but what there is to be so worried that one would redesign a system into a theoretical not-so-engineered application. The rate-of-failure data doesn't support the decision to do this. W Please note that the calculations for the "all airplane" failure rates were based upon the numerical fact the RVs rule and will soon dominate the universe. Also, since I haven't started any good rumors lately have you heard about the RV-15 in the works. It seems Dick, Dick and Burt have finally gotten over the metal/plastic rift and we're talking rivets in space... get out your extra can of proseal boys..... Houston, cover your ears, count down's a'coming!!! As well, it's a new age of love and harmony because ECI and Superior are working out the new Millennium Titan Launch SP-360 Ion Pulsed-Stroker and King/Garmin will be introducing a Mode SP-8C transponder soon. And the Trio boys are working out the orbit reentry logarithms for their new UBLIS Hyper-triaxial light-speed autopilot. (editors note; the new acronym comes from U B Lost In Space... or at least somebody's lost in space somewhere near the big galactic cloud that spells out the words " do not archive ") Of additional note Lightspeed Inc. will somewhat naturally own the marketing niche for their line of products here, however one already can't hear squat in space so they'll be working on a product line makeover as it were. I've submitted a suggestion for a new line of "Marital Bliss" noise canceling products for those romantic trips to have a Moon-Cheese burger.

I look forward to his report. Maybe I can read it in the light given off by my brakes being on fire. ;o) N1GV (RV-6A, Flying 883hrs, O-360-A1A, C/S, Silicon Valley) (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

Wheeler, is correct - the incident of RV brake fires are inconsequential - less you happen to be one of the incidents{:>). No fun being the statistic! They can be caught during routine inspections and preflights when they can be remedied. I caught my original problem with the original Nitrile O-rings on the tarmac at Henderson Exec preparing to depart. It was an extremely inconvenient time to do a proper brake repair, so I elected to fly home and restrained my use of the brakes upon landing. There is no need for any of you to repeat this exercise. If you wish to not avail yourself of the opportunity to upgrade your brakes using very simple available means then all I can't do anything further but wish you all a happy new year and blue skies.
