I downloaded a data-logging file of my last flight and sent it to Grand Rapids for analysis. They said that I'm only getting a good signal when facing a heading of 25 to 75 degrees. I have a 7A with a slider, and have mounted the satellite antenna on the glare shield, right up against the windscreen. It's next to my GPS antenna and I have no problems signalwise with it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to mount the antenna for a better view of the sky? Thank you. But for my education, why would proximity to my GPS antenna create a problem? And and active antenna may actually be putting out a bit of noise. Yeah, it's receive only, but it's just not unheard of that the antennas can interfere. When I went to install my Wx and GPS antennas on the cabin top, they specified 12" minimum separation between them in the install docs. I'm not saying that for your particular case that it will fix it....but it's a real quick thing to test before you get too far into tearing things up. From: "JakeTheBosun" All was well Saturday after 3 hours of flying my RV 8 for Kids Flying event, but on taxi back to hanger my Vans Voltmeter melted. Today I checked main bus (running) show 14.2 volts and (not running) 12 volts. Started intending to check , Ammeter shows normal. But melted my Oil Temp Today and Manifold Pressure is hot to touch. Seems they are melting at the circuit board power but beside the Ground screw. I see no obvious loose grounds.....any suggestions?
