the reason it does not list inches is it is referenced to the fuselage center line. rick --- On Sat, 7/18/09, Jim Fogarty, Lakes & Leisure Realty, Inc. <jfogarty@tds.net> wrote: > From: Jim Fogarty, Lakes & Leisure Realty, Inc. <jfogarty@tds.net> > Subject: Re: RV-List: Re: How To Accurately Measure Aileron Throws... > To: rv-list@matronics.com > Date: Saturday, July 18, 2009, 5:34 AM > "Jim Fogarty, Lakes & Leisure Realty, Inc." <jfogarty@tds.net> > > Mark, Do you have the same travel down on your flaps > on both sides, left and right? > > Jim > RV9a Building > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Matt Dralle" <dralle@matronics.com> > To: <rv-list@matronics.com>; > <rv8-list@matronics.com> > Sent: Friday, July 17, 2009 10:53 PM > Subject: RV-List: Re: How To Accurately Measure Aileron > Throws... > > > > At 08:48 AM 7/17/2009 Friday, Matt Dralle > wrote: > >> Dear Listers, > >> > >> The construction manual on my RV-8 says to set the > aileron throws to 25-32 degrees Up and 15-17 degrees > Down. It looks like AOPA is all over LOP with a detailed article last month and now an online article & video. http://www.aopa.org/members/files/pilot/2009/july/frugal0907.html "the debate is over, the data is conclusive" quotes the video. Robin

    Subject: Flap Skins Too Short?
Dear Listers, Please see the attached photo taken from the underside of my RV-8. I was going to cut the bottom flap skin to match the diagonal of the fuselage skin per the "View E-E Flaps Fairing" on DGW 80. But, it appears that the aft portion of the flap skin was cut too short by the QB builders. Note that the front part seems to be exactly the right length and that diagonal cut will clip just perfectly. But on the aft skin of the flap, it is cut off about 2" too short to continue the diagonal line. Since the fuselage side skin is curving up right there, this will act like a giant air scoop. The flaps appear to be mounted in the correct position, left/right as they are the required 3/16" from the ailerons. The left side is exactly the same as the right side as shown in the picture. Thoughts? Thanks! Matt Dralle RV-8 #82880 N998RV FWF Is Right Around The Corner!!

This picture opened fine..... This looks normal to me IIRC, geez its been 5.5 yrs flying now, just trim t o the fuse IIRC. I also recall that it is somewhat common for the flaps to fit differently to the fuse L or R side. Maybe this is not a problem with t he quick builds but in the "old" days I recall this isssue. Don't know if any of you are contemplating an air conditioning system in your airplane or have an old R-12 system in your airplane (or car) that needs fixing but I may have what you need. Since I no longer own a vehicle that uses R-12 refrigerant I have seven 12 ounce cans available for sale at $35 dollars apiece (a repair shop now charges upwards of $100 a pound for R-12, if they can locate some). I also have an R-12 manifold gauge set (used to monitor the high and low pressures in an R-12 system while filling) and a tap for the R-12 cans ($35.00 for both of these). Let me know if you need any of these or, buy the whole ball of wax for $250.00. Dean Psiropoulos RV-6A N197DM Prop removed for radiographic inspection.
