Subject: RV-List: Non WAAS GNS-430 Trades Hi All, One last note to see if there are any of you floating around out there with Non WAAS GNS-430's that have zero flight time on them.... A number of you had responded to my last note about a month or so ago, but my customer still wants more so I'm checking again. Here's the deal: I need GNS-430's that are either new in the box, or installed but NEVER flown (zero flight time). If you have one, we'll trade you a brand spankin new GNS-430W for your efforts. It sounds to good to be true, but it's not. One of my customers is a major military contractor who got themselves into a pickle with a certain project and ended up short on the 430's. The have to be Non WAAS because they are in Europe, and they need to match the rest of the fleet. If you have one, please contact me off list ASAP. I'm sorry but we can't use "almost new" or "as good as new" or "only one flight" units, they have to be new never used. Thanks and have a great week, Stein do not archive _________________________________________ The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. What are the pros and cons and opinions regarding the use of the "Standard" vs. "Aerobatic" engine vibration mounts? I have a set of both and can't decide which to use. Will there be more sag with the Std version over time? Is the different in vibration noticeable? Does having the larger engine make any difference in the selection? What other gotchas are there between the two different types. One other question. Do they have a shelf life? Does a set sitting in the box, on a shelf for 15 years have any noticeable reduction in "performance"? Thanks for your feedback! Very cool, btw. But what caught my eye was how many of them had smoke systems installed. I found the following at ACS which looks interesting, but kind of big for an RV-8: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/sa102-103.php Is this what people are using? Where would one mount this system in an RV-8? Behind the baggage area? In the engine compartment? Seems really cool to have one of these systems, but are they just a big pain in the ass to maintain? And a little pricey. It also weighs 59 LBS when full. I made my smoke tank for my Pitts when it didn't have a source of 12V. I took the (15Lb???) freon bottle and took out the safety plug in the bottom. Welded a 1" or 1 1/2" pipe adapter in the hole. This is where my flop tube screws in. I ran the line from the flop tube over the top of the tank to the front where I mounted a small pressure regulator and the line going to the exhaust stacks. I removed the valve and welded another pipe adapter in it's place. This is where I fill the tank with 1 gal of corvus oil .... AKA smoke oil. A pipe plug with a schrader valve screwed in allows me to put 100+ pounds of air on it. I was space challenged, so the little bottle was my choice, and it mounts under the fuel tank between my legs. Not being terribly familiar with the RV-8, if you have a baggage compartment that would hold a larger bottle .... I'd put it there. A ball valve to turn on/off the smoke is all you need. A coupl e of the airplanes have "homebrew" system. None of the passes had all the airplanes with smoke on. During practice=2C it was determined that we had too much smoke. Typically we had no more th an two airplanes in a row with smoke on. BTW. The flight was 36-RVs with one F1 Rocket. Gary A. Sobek "My Sanity" RV-6 N157GS O-320 Hartzell=2C 2=2C281+ Flying Hours So. This might be lower-tech or lower sophistication than you want, but... http://www.kcdawnpatrol.org/smoke.htm Charlie ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 07:50:16 PM PST US From: Vanremog@aol.com Subject: Re: RV-List: Std vs. Aerobatic Engine Vibration Mounts Matt- One wearout mode besides compression set (sag) in these isolators is loss of elastomeric properties over time due to outgassing of the natural oils/emollients in the rubber compound. This increases the durometer of the compound over time and increases their transmissibility. Aerobatic mounts are naturally stiffer than standard isolators from the get-go. IMO you should buy fresh standard isolators and immediately coat them in DC4, then you should dynamically balance your engine/prop combination. They then should last until engine TBO.
