Robin, I looked back on my incoming and surmised it was Matt's leather
seats post but you could be right.

The issue is and will remain the desire of a few to hobble the use by
the many of 21 century technology because they choose to remain strapped
with late 20th century bandwidth. Choices abound. For some it's an
issue of cost. They do not see the additional value. There are several
services that provide satellite downlink using 20th century request
telephone uplink technology. It can work as far north as Alaska and I
      live in a forest.

I enjoy Matt's hosting and will continue to want to stay on the bus
rather than stop frequently for a few. As you know I also love your
photos. One service might be for members to use the 19th century
telephone and read the posts so as not to jam up the tin cans and string
which are clearly run too tight with their computers. ;-)

Just checked my Comcast service and a 35Mb file takes 14 seconds. The
service is half the cost of my twisted pair telephony. Just a
      contrarian perspective.

      Keep the information flowing.

I am sure it was a post from me. I sent 3 photos totaling 1.2
(one-point-two) Mb offing to sell an RV-8 Cowl at a significant
discount. I assumed I was doing a service to some -8 builder on a budget
(not a money making venture). I could have slimmed down the images even
further but I wanted to make sure the prospective buyer was able to see
detail. Sorry it's been about 16 years since I was dial up.

Very condescending John. It is also easy for a poster to reduce the picture

Actually if it was Matts seat photos they were just the right size,
would not want them any smaller.
I agree that it is time to get modernized and use a internet connection
      that is up to date.
Some of the cheap or free dial ups are clunky and not worth using when
      there are options
today for _*almost*_ all to have faster internets.

Guys, I think it was the RV8 metal plenum photo's, my computer handled them
without any problem and the photo's were great. Here's the deal, we all
have different providers, some of them are really fast and some are really
slow....., but I was happy to get all the great photo's. The RV builder did
say; "I hope this file is not too big." Just my 2 cents.

Doesn't your e-mail software have an option to "ignore e-mails larger than
xxx kB" or "download only headers larger than xxkBytes"?- I you used that
then you would avoid having to expect the rest of the world to lower their
e-mail standards to fit your personal needs.

Why not just upload the large images to one of the free photo hosting
sites and put the URL in the email?????

      A few points.
I loved PowerToys as a simple right click image resizing tool but when I
"upgraded" to Vista PowerToys was not compatible. Based on this
conversation I just installed VSO Image Resizer and will give that a try
for quick resizings. It seems to work OK but not as ultra simple as
PowerToys. On a side note I did shortly thereafter make a webpage to
display my items for sale but they sold so quickly that few people saw
      the page. www.painttheweb.com/rv-8a/cowl

It is likely most of us are pretty well gagged with too much info on
      this minor problem.

I expect Matt can and will make an adjustment to the ground rules if
      warranted.

Let's all go to our corners and take a break.

| Subject: | Re: Oil pressure variation |

I flew this morning for half an hour, circling near the airport just in case, and
there was never a hint of problem with oil pressure. Stayed at 73/74 the entire
time. On run up on the pad I saw these rpm/oil pressure readings: 800rpm/56psi,
      1,000/62, 1200/67, 1,300/70, 2250/74. In flight 2,300/74 and rock steady
      at 73 or 74 psi.

I can only HOPE that the oil pressure relief valve cleaning did the trick. More
flying in the next few days to verify. (But this is all taking time away from
      my RV-12 construction !)

Thanks again for the suggestions folks.

| Subject: | RV-8 QB Exhaust Ramp Riveting... |

      Dear Listers,

I just noticed that the exhaust ramp only has a couple of temporary rivets installed
from the QB process. I can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't
rivet this already?? I hesitate to rivet it if there is something I'm suppose
to do before it gets riveted on...? The aft side isn't riveted yet either
and it looks like the only way this is going to be rivetable is with pop rivets.
      Is that true?

Here are a couple of pictures of what I'm talking about.

| Subject: | IO-390 Governor Oil Line...? |

Van's includes a document called "Service Instruction No. 1435" describing a long,
aluminimum tube that connects from the front of the engine to the rear where
the prop governor is attached (see attached photo).

Since the prop governor on the IO-390 is mounted up front, is there even such a
tube for this application? If so, what's the part number and where's a good
      place to get one?

      Thanks!

| Subject: | Re: Large attachments |

I am sympathetic to the issues caused by dial-up, having spent too
many years on that service. But, now that Matt is allowing
attachments on his e-mail lists, it is a fact of life that some of
those attachments are going to be larger than a dial-up user will
want. It isn't reasonable to expect that every user will manage to
remember to think of the poor dial-up users every time.

Just complaining on the list is not going to do the job, as there is
zero chance you will change everyone's behaviour. If you want to
solve the problem for good, you'll need to do it yourself, rather than
depending on other people to solve your problem for you. Most e-mail
programs have options that allow the user to specify a maximum
attachment size that will be downloaded. If you really want to solve
this problem, and your e-mail client doesn't have this option, maybe
it is time to switch to another e-mail program.

No. With the front-mounted governor, all the oil passages are
      internal to the engine.

I just forwarded the photos John sent to me. Definitely one of the nicer

What should I set the gap the spark plug for on the IO-390?

What torque value should be used when screwing in the spark plugs?

Is there a gasket to seal the CS prop to the crankshaft? Looks like there is a
taper fitting between the prop and the crankshaft. What are the torque values
for the prop bolts? I have a 72" Hartzell prop I got new from Van's, but I
don't find the installation instructions in my pile of stuff. Anybody have any?

      Thanks!

Standard gap is .016-.021. Make them at tight end with magnetos, more
      towards wide gap with electronic.
I think Lycoming calls for 35 ft lbs...I use 25 ft lbs which is more
than enough, so I don't need a breaker bar to remove them. That is with
the standard Champion graphite antiseize lube.

There's an O-ring in the ID of the prop that slips over the flange
protruding from the crank. Lube it with motor oil or vaseline. If it's not
in the prop already, it's still in the box or with the manual.

The torque should be on a label on the prop.
