I hate to argue online, but Linn is incorrect on this one.  Regardless of how furiously
you pump grease into that zerk it will NEVER properly lube the locking
pin, nor will it effectively remove the dirt and grit that has accumulated in
the mechanism.  Since the rotation of the shaft is actually quite minimal and
the locking pin function is what makes this system tick, it behooves the users
to keep the pin area properly maintained, cleaned, and lubed.  Do that and
you'll minimize any steering problems.

No apologies necessary Vince.  I was only addressing the greasing of the 
shaft.  I've found that the locking mechanism works better with graphite 
instead of grease.  As you said, keep it clean and lubed (whatever 
method you use) and it'll work perfectly.
