I found two of them with a simple Google search. I'm not sure if either meets
your requirements but here are the links to them:

Ben,
It's my understanding that the oil is drawn from the sump, pumped to the
cooler, circulated through the engine, and then drains back to the sump.
If so, then I want to know the temp coming from the cooler, since that
is what the engine sees.
Unless I'm missing something here.

Thanks for the info. Not what I had in mind. I should have been more specific.
Looking for an "almost constant speed" Warnke for a Lycoming 0-320 160 HP.

Hi. The motor is transferring heat into the oil as it runs. If incoming
oil is 180 and the sump oil is at say 240 then knowing the higher number
is critical in gauging the condition of the engine and to be able to ch
oose the correct oil for that application. The easiest comparison is coo
lant temp thats displayed in all water cooled engines, like your car. Th
at temp is taked directly from the engine right at the thermostat housin
g, which is the hottest reading. Obtaining water temp from coolant that
's coming from the radiator and at its coolest is of no real value to mo
st people.
On my experimental I probe water temp in three locations. My set up is '
highly' experimental and I WANT to know the temp difference. By comparin
g those numbers I can calculate my radiators ability to shed heat. I can
see if I am getting on the backside of the cooling curve.
About 20 minutes into this video I explain how this works..

But... the a/c engine manufacturer specifies acceptable temp range and
they specify measuring after the cooler, entering the engine. Logically,
they would know how much heat gain there will be as the oil finds its
way through the engine if cyl head temps are in acceptable range.
It's difficult to directly compare numbers between air cooled a/c
engines & automotive engines; you just need to know how/where the values
are measured, & what the limits are, for each.

Subject: | For Sale-wood prop for 180 Lyc |
I have a wood prop kit for sale. The prop is Ed Sterbas standard 70x82
carving and is designed for the 180 HP Lycoming, an excellent cruise prop on
the RV-6A. The package comes with inch mounting holes, bolts, crush plate
and the 2.25 inch extension from Van's catalog. I'm also throwing in a
spinner with the package.
Although I never had any problems with this prop, I decided to replace it
with the metal Sensenich. Usually torqued the bolts every 25 hours,
something I dont have to do with the metal prop, although I used to do that
during my oil changes and it wasnt really that big of a deal. The prop
never loosened over the last couple years between torqueings, even in the
winter when it gets dry and cool here. Its about 30 pounds lighter than the
fixed pitch Sensenich that replaces it. Price - $750.00 for the works. I
also have pictures, if you contact me off list I'll email.
