Like? What are some of the apps? I was thinking of a iPad but not sure how the
apps work. I got "Chart Case" from flight prep and bottom line at least for me
is it sucks big time. Do not want to waste more money. So do you have a little
more insight for the iPad?

I just got a Droid X phone and will leave my laptop at home this
weekend when I go to Van's Homecoming. The app I am using right now is
AirWX ($4.99) that gets METAR, TAF, Weather Graphics, Plates, Airport
Diagrams... and probably more. No flight planning, but I subscribe to
Weathermeister for that and it works well on the Droid.

I bought an iPad ( the version with GPS ) JUST to run SkyChartsPro ( www.skycharts.net ) on it after having a friend demo his to me.
The application is great in that I'll never have to by paper charts again, and
it only costs $20 / YEAR for the app.
What skycharts gives you is a virtual stitching-together of all Sectionals, IFR
Low, TAC and FLY charts plus A/FDs, SIDs, STARs, and
Approach Plates.
For example, start in LA and skim your finger across the chart to scroll it until
you've reached NY, it will look like one
continuous chart. Also, you can tap your finger on airports you see on the sectional/ifr
chart and it will pop up the AFD,
SID,STAR, Plate selection menu for that selected airport. I couldn't imagine going
back again to a pile of charts/plate to make a
long x-country.
One last feature I love - with the GPS enabled iPad there's an airplane icon that
moves along the big virtual sectional/ifr chart as
you fly. Information on any airport along your flight path is just a tap away.
In a nutshell, the iPad wasn't cheap and I'm not
really an Apple fan but I'm addicted to the convenience that it provides, not to
mention I'm saving multiple dollars every
cycle/plates of charts that I no longer have to buy on paper.
There's a youtube demo on it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdl1mPODr_Y

Try Foreflight, I was a dedicated SkyChartsPro guy too, but converted. Actu
ally I use them both but Foreflight has many more features and downloads the
charts a lot faster. Youcan download Foreflight for free for the first mon
th, then it is $75 per year or $8 per month. I subscribed for the summer to
try it out and I'll probably re-up for the year.... I use it daily just for
the radar!
