I cut the plug off so I didnt have to drill a large hole through my firewall and re-soldered. Everything worked fine for prob over 100 hours then I got the intermittent problem. I had an experienced friend solder it for me and it worked for about 20 hours but is now doing it again. Im probably going to buy a new harness and drill the big hole. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks Shemp 6a ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 02:35:11 PM PST US From: "Carl Froehlich" Subject: RE: RV-List: Light speed ignition problem Based on your careful look at the harness, recommend you assume the LightSpeed box is bad and send it to Klaus. I had a similar intermittent Lightspeed LCD readout problem on mine before I removed the units. I installed 6 Plasma II+ units on 3 RVs. All the supplied wire harnesses had cold solder joints. I called Klaus and he told me that it was impossible that his harnesses were the problem. I sent them back to him anyway and his short reply was "yea, these are bad". I also did a field repair of 5 of the 6 boxes that had a wrong component on the board. Again Klaus told me my installation was bad until he actually looked at the box I sent back. He fixed the one box and sent me the components to repair the other 5. I didn't even get a thank you for identifying a problem with all his shipped units, or for fixing the 5 I had for free. After 450 hours and many more problems with my dual LightSpeed install (including a totally failed unit in flight) I have removed them and am now running dual P-Mags. If anyone is interested I will provide the details of my Lightspeed experience off list. If you are soldering then you are probably using stamped instead of machined pins/sockets. Get a new D-sub connector and the matching high quality, crimped <> pins/sockets. I forget which one the cable has, just match the gender. You'll need a 4 point crimper but should be able to borrow one. You can always de-pin the connector if you need to pull the cable through the firewall. The de-pinning tool is a couple bucks. The blue Daniels crimper is M22520/2-01 with the appropriate positioner. Check the Daniels website for applications. -GV In a message dated 9/8/2010 3:27:04 P.M.
