Subject: | Fuel Venture 400 |
COPPERSTATE is coming up and so is the Fuelventure 400 fuel efficiency
competition.
Over two thousand dollars in prize monies.
This year, the weigh-in, departure, arrival and weigh-out will occur at
Phoenix Regional airport, A39.
Phoenix Regional (a bit of an euphemism for the small airport) is 7 miles
from Casa Grande airport. It was decided that Phoenix Regional was the best
option due to congestion issues which affected last year's competition.
Desert Rat Aviation is hosting the activities at Phoenix Regional.
Transportation to and from the fly-in/hotels and Phoenix Regional will be
provided.
Weigh-in will begin at the Phoenix Regional airport Friday October, 22 from
Noon until 1800 hrs Mountain Standard Time (Arizona doesn't observer
daylight savings time). The Event will be flown on the 23rd.
Fuel consumption will be determined by the weight of the aircraft and
passengers before and after the competition. Aircraft weigh-ins will be
conducted . The airplanes will be impounded and isolated until departure
time the next morning. Keep in mind that the difference between a first and
second place at the first Fuelventure was five pounds of fuel.
The event will begin with individual aircraft departures to complete a
course of 380 statute miles. Passenger weigh-ins will be conducted just
prior to departure. Passengers and planes will be weighted again after
completing the course. A minimum speed for the course of 120 miles an hour
will be required.
There will be three competition classes based on aircraft gross weight: 500
kg or less, 501 to 750 kg and 750 to 1000 kg. There will also be an RV
class.
Three places per weight classification will be awarded for the best
efficiency score based on speed, passenger payload and miles per gallon,
using the CAFE formula.
For the fuel miser purists, three places per weight classification will be
awarded for the for best aircraft MPG only. No bonuses for passengers or
speed, just complete the course above 120 miles an hour for the best miles
per gallon number.
Last year, there were no entries in the 500 kg or less group.
Awards will be presented at the COPPERATATE/EAA banquet Saturday night.
An active five hundred thousand dollar, or greater, insurance policy will be
required to participate. Entries will be limited so pre-registration is
appreciated.
