Subject: | No "Black Friday" For List Fund Raiser... |
Dear Listers,
Curiously, even though the number of List subscriptions are significantly up this
year, support during this year's Fund Raiser is still substantially behind
last year. There are only a couple more days left in November and the end of
the Fund Raiser is quickly approaching.
I have always preferred a non-commercial List experience as many, many members
have also expressed that they do as well. However, if the yearly fund raiser
cannot generate sufficient funds to keep the bills paid, other sources of income
might be required including some sort of advertising. Please don't let that
happen! Your personal Contribution of $20 or $30 goes a long ways to keeping
the operation a float.
Please make sure your name is on this year's List of Contributors published in
December.
The Contribution site is secure, quick, and easy:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
Or, drop a personal check in the mail to:

Thank you in advance for your support!

Subject: | Transferring builder log data |
Sorry for the interruption, but after almost 10 years of building, the computer
on which I've kept my builder log (Kitlog 1.7.3) is showing signs that it's about
to go toes up.
I've faithfully backed the data up to a DVD and I've got another computer (I don't
have Kitlog 1.7.3 b/c it was a series of downloads over the years from the
original Kitlog CD).
I'm ready to download Kitlog Pro online but I notice the trial version doesn't
have a menu item as Kitlog 1.7.3 for restoring backed up files (or at least I
couldnt' find it).
Before I spend $49, I wonder if someone who had migrated from an early version
to the present version can tell me if this function is available on the fully
featured (i.e. paid for) version.

While he may see it here, I would suggest emailing Matt Dralle directly,
as I believe Matronics, hosting this list is the current owner of KitLog
software.

Which is why I'm not contributing to the annual List Fund Drive this year.
I too paid for Kitlog Pro a few years ago, and there have been zero
improvements since. When Matt begins to properly support his products then
I'll support the Lists.
Bob, contact me offline and I'll try to help you sort out the restore of
backup if you don't hear from Matt.

Bob,
Kitlog just uses a standard Access database as a file store. The current
release of Kitlog, V2.0, Build 050720.1 just has a file open and file
backup. The backup command is just a simple file copy of the *.mbd file.
There really isn't anything to restore, just open a copy of the backup file.
I'd be happy to attempt to load your 1.7.3 version into 2.0 for you as a
test. Let me know how big your file is, then I can determine the best
method to get me the file if you're interested.
Bob

Hi Bob,
The database format between Kitlog 1.7.3 and Kitlog 2.0 is different and not directly
compatible. That being said, the Kitlog 2.0 Upgrader that is applied to
an existing Kitlog 1.7.3 installation will automatically upgrade the 1.7.3 database
to the new 2.0 format. I would strongly recommend that you get Kitlog
1.7.3 working on the NEW computer, then try the upgrade to 2.0. Here's the steps
necessary to move the 1.7.3 installation to the NEW computer:
1) Copy the following folder and ALL sub-folders from the OLD computer to the NEW
computer:
c:\Program Files\KitlogPro
Note that if you have referenced photos in your log that are NOT located within
the context of the above directory structure, you should ALSO copy all of these
as well, being careful to exactly match the folder structure from the OLD computer
on the NEW computer.
2) Download the Kitlog 1.7.3 installer from the following link:
http://www.kitlog.com/dls/kitlogpro173.exe
3) Run the installer from Step 2 above.
4) Run Kitlog on the NEW computer and click on the Register button and find the
new SystemID for the NEW computer.
5) Email support@kitlog.com the new SystemID found in Step 4.
6) When you receive the replacement Unlock code based on the new SystemID, start
Kitlog again and install it as directed.
7) Verify that all of your log entries are present on the NEW computer including
all of your pictures. If everything looks good, go to Step 8.
8) On the NEW computer, go to the following URL and download the Kitlog 2.0 Upgrade
(Option 2):
http://www.kitlog.com/downloads/
9) Run the Upgrade and following the instructions. The Upgrade should find your
Kitlog 1.7.3 installation and proceed to create a new Kitlog 2.0 database from
it, then install Kitlog 2.0 on your computer.
NOTE that the Kitlog 2.0 Upgrader will install a completely standalone version
of Kitlog 2.0 on your computer and will in no way disturb the existing Kitlog
1.7.3 installation. Once you've done the upgrade, be sure that you are running
the Kitlog 2.0 installation and NOT the older Kitlog 1.7.3 version. If you
are satisfied with the installation of Kitlog 2.0 and the migration of your log
entries from the old Kitlog 1.7.3 installation, I would recommend using the
Add/Remove Windows Control Panel to Uninstall the Kitlog 1.7.3 installation to
make sure there is no confusion in the future.
Best regards,

Hi Bob,

the new SystemID for the NEW computer.
5) Email support@kitlog.com the new SystemID found in Step 4.

start Kitlog again and install it as directed.
