I second the motion for one of Tom's oil filter cutters (the
flyboyaccessories link). I got mine from Aircraft Spruce---mainly
because it was the cheapest filter cutter I could find---but it works
great. Cuts the top off the filter in one pass, like a can opener.
Just be ready for the filter element to drip a lot of oil, even after
you've left the filter sitting upside down for a while. Ask me how I
      know...
No connection other than a very satisfied customer.

Taxiiing out after my last landing the right brake on my RV-6A was
sticking. (I've only got about 30 hours on the plane.) Full left rudder
wouldn't overcome it. I had to keep tapping the left brake. Back in the
hangar the right wheel fairing was pretty warm.

I've assumed that with new brakes, that sticking would take care of itself
after a bit as the pad wears down.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Is ther anytjhing I should check before I fly again.

Check that the pressure plate is free to move on the pins. some times they
      get rusty and bind.

Yes I'd check this before next flight.

I had the same issue even with additional springs added to the brake
cylinder. Turned out that I had over tightened the bolts connecting the
brake pedals to the rudder weldment. It doesn't take much binding to
cause the brakes to hangup and generate a lot of heat.

      Tom:

This is very common with the Matco master cylinders provided with the kit.

Two things you can do include installing an additional external spring at th
e top of each brake cylinder, as well as installing a single, long bolt wher
e each brake pedal pivots. If you visit vansairforce.net and search the sub
ject, you should be able to find some pictures. Was discussed at rivetbange
      rs.com as well.

I found that installing the extra springs did the trick for me.

The problem may be the brake puck isn't relaxing when the brake pedal is
      released

Or it may be the O-ring on the brake puck is old and hardened.

First, check that the master cylinder piston rod is coming all the way
out. It only needs to be in a little bit to block the fluid from coming
      back.

If that doesn't solve the problem, check the brake cylinder.

Remove the puck in the brake cylinder.
clean the brake cylinder on the inside.
Replace the O-ring on the puck.

      Well, bleed the brakes again.

      Tom:
I had an issue with dragging brakes when I first started flying my RV-7A in
August 09. A friend and mentor suggested I loosen all of the bolts/castle
nuts holding the brake pedals inside the rudder frames. (I have dual brake
assemblies.) I loosened every one of them to less than finger tight -
they're actually loose - no possibility of them coming apart because they're
secured with cotter keys. Problem solved - no more dragging brakes. Take a
look - this could be your problem.
