Thanks Gary,
Dan Baier posted some documentation on the Yahoo site. I'll be
reviewing the wiring and probably swapping the guages left for right
(that's a pretty easy test).
Glad to hear it's not an isolated incident.
Ralph

Ralph-
IME, this is common with this type of gauge. When I first got mine I
observed the same thing you did and had Van's send me a couple gauges
and senders. I found two that behaved similarly, kept and installed
them and sent the others back. As long as they seem to respond normally
to the presence/absence of fuel when the system is energized I would
leave them alone. Mine still act properly and the same after 13 yrs in
the air.

needle bounced on the stop. The other gauge did the normal gentle
return to zero.
Do I have an issue here with one of the gauges? I would think they
should act the same.

The following is from Garmin's Web site. I don't know when this was posted,
but a friend on mine picked up on a problem this week from another "list
service" he belongs too so I thought I'd pass this note on.
Marty
"Garmin has identified an issue with reception of XM weather products for
aviation and marine devices using a GXM30, GXM31, GXM40 and GXM 51. This
issue will make it difficult for the devices to receive weather information.
The issue has been corrected with a free software release from Garmin.
Aviation software can be updated using Garmin's WebUpdater. The 396 will
need software version 4.60 or higher; the 496 will need software version
3.70 or higher."
