I have 10:1 pistons, so I choose to run ROP and pay a little extra in fuel for the cooling (just one technique) Of course, that 50 ROP cylinder is running at the highest intracylinder pressure (ICP), so likely to be the hottest and most stressed. Paul

Paul, This technique is only used above 8-10K, and well below 75%. What you're saying is correct on ICP, so I watch closely at which altitudes/power settings I lean like this (mentioned in the previous post, apologies if I didn't state it clearly enough). I probably should undertake the GAMI program, so I can get them all at 100 ROP together when I'm running at power. Oh, and I didn't say I run ROP to baby the engine, I do it for additional cooling (the 50 ROP argument is noted though). I race this plane, and run the motor at high power a lot...but don't lean it there (at low altitudes at least). She's my baby, but she likes to run. I know the debate rages on LOP flying, and I have no issues with LOP operations whatsoever. I was just told not to do it in a 10:1 motor, so I eat the extra cost on gas and run ROP (mostly in the 100+ ROP range, per Deakin's recommendations). With a different motor, I'd be a LOP flyer too. Perhaps the caution on hi comp motors and LOP is unfounded, and I'm not trying to start a debate, but I'm just staying on the ROP side with this motor (and I do pay attention to the red zone!) :-) Cheers, Bob -----Original Message----- From: owner-rv-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Paul Millner Sent: Thursday, March 03, 2011 11:17 AM Subject: RV-List: ROP to baby the engine?
