NHK television transmitted aerial images of flood waters engulfing the airport, where survivors clustered on the roof of the main building. I notice this airport also has gates (aka, it services airlines). Does anyone know if any big iron was at the airport when the quake hit? Where are those planes? Did they manage to scramble them into the air before the wave hit? Further guessing that it takes some time for airlines to make executive decisions on these matters and then finding the right crew, fuel, preflight etc=85 My guess is nothing was moving or flying before the tsunami hit. I have goggled the earthquake / tsunami timeline but I have yet to find anything specific so I don=92t know if the water hit 5 minutes after or 45 minutes after. The clos est I could find was a mix of GMT and Video with a time code from a news helicopter. I am only guessing the earthquake hit at 46 after and the tsunami came in at 12 after the hour or about 26 minutes later. Below is a photo I found that looks like the wave front approaching the airport taken from the other side of the airport. There is other footage of 7 - 25=92 gre en houses being taken out in 4 seconds. That puts the approximate speed of the surge front at 30 MPH. Sorry for all the guessing, Robin [image: The earthquake triggered a 23-foot tsunami followed by more than 50 aftershocks for hours, many of them of more than magnitude 6.0. In this photo, waves swept along Iwanuma in northern Japan on Friday.] *From:* owner-rv-list-server@matronics.com [mailto: owner-rv-list-server@matronics.com] *On Behalf Of *Chris Colohan *Sent:* Saturday, March 12, 2011 9:14 AM *To:* rv10-list@matronics.com *Subject:* RV-List: Re: RV10-List: Aviation Related Those are the first pictures I've seen of airplanes at Sendai.
