I'm just about ready to hang my engine, and have found I don't know
enough about hooking up one of these. I don't know if there is anything I
want to hook to the engine before hanging it on the plane (have already
put most of what I want on the firewall). Also, I don't know what hooks
where on this thing. Looking for recomendations on where to learn more.

As my questions require pictures, put it online:

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

      Hi Brain,

Well, rule of thumb is that you don't want anything mounted on the back of the
engine that you'd have to take the engine off to service (Ferrari should take
a note). On the -8, there's plenty of room between the firewall and the back
of the motor to do most things pretty easily.

I would recommend getting a set of Van's RV-8 Firewall Forward plans. They show
you pretty clearly where everything should go and what needs to be plumbed where.
I'd also recommend Van's FWF kit. All the hoses are cut and terminated
to fit perfectly. Saves a ton of head scratching. Worth twice the price.

You can also check out my RV-8 build site and specifically the engine section.
There should be plenty of pictures there to give you an idea of what goes where.
      Here a starter link:

      http://www.mattsrv8.com/users/category.php?user=MattsRV8&project=638&category=2972

Start at the bottom of the page and work your way up. Pretty much documents the
whole process, at least as far as how I did it.

I'd be happy to take any additional pictures if you don't find them on my site.
Also happy to answer any questions.

      Best regards,

      Matt

Good point. I should just hang it as is and get the CG forward of the
      wheels.

I didn't want to get the kit because what I want (fixed pitch,
inverted oil, minimal electric) is different enough from others as to end
up paying for stuff I didn't use. Looking at the list, I already have a
fair bit of what is on it. I didn't know they would sell just the plans,
      that would be worth getting.

I have an anti-glare screen protector. I departed CCB in SoCal IFR due to m
arine layer and landed about 7-hours later after one fuel stop in BGD Texas
around 4 PM local time. No issuses with visibility or heat. Only 0.1 actua
l IFR was without clear sky with no clouds.

IMHO=2C the iPad display is unusable in my airplane (RV-6=2C slider) withou
      t an anti-glare screen protector.

It was 101 on the ramp at BGD and the iPad2 was still working. I intentiona
lly left it on the glare shield while the airplane was refueled and I tied
it down. It was overheated an inop. Into the air conditioned office to pay
my bill and use the restroom I went. I then turned the iPad2 on to check th
understorm activity to make sure that a hangar was not needed. The iPad2 wo
      rked flawlessly.

The iPad 2 and ForeFlight was all I used for maps=2C charts=2C and books al
l the way to Southwestern PA (Pittsburgh=2C KVVS) and then to AirVenture 20
      11 Oshkosh.
