Less than 100 hours and three engine out landings the plane has been in the hangar for the last 9 years. For an independent opinion, call any insurance company and ask for rates for a RV-6 with this engine. Ultimately d id a full Lycoming engine replacement which cost way more time & money than just going with the Lycoming to start. Or I can refer you to the resale ma rket for alternate engine RV sales where some flying RV's sell for a HUGE d iscount to standard build RV's. The upside is you will likely be able to sharpen your off field landing ski lls. The least expensive most dependable thing you can do is build to factory pl ans. R.C., I am serious about connecting you with the local builder. 15 minutes with him will eliminate all those auto engine dreams in your head.
