They are a compact solid state unit about 2 1/2 inches square and 3/4 inch deep in a metal case. I have one mounted on the back side of my firewall. It=99s still there but I just cut the wires to it because my first replacement alternator came with an internal voltage regulator. That=99s how I remember it. I think I=99m on my third alternator but they only cost about $99 or less from your favorite auto parts store and they all come with an internal voltage regulator.
