Randy's flying in to my town today (Eau Claire, WI) after flying well over 1000 NM...he'll definitely have a feel for it. I think he just got some speed test numbers too. I spoke with Randy yesterday....I don't think that any flyers have even the slightest worries about shedding parts if you fly within the design specs. PS: Is there a difference to you if the RV10 only goes 198mph instead of 208mph....why the extreme concern? If you're that worried, buy an IO-540 and have a couple of the mods done to it an you can push the HP up to 270-290HP. You'll be beyond the recommendations, but hey, if you're desperate for a couple of MPH... --> RV10-List message posted by: Tim Olson <Tim@MyRV10.com> I had thought about that. It would, of course, assume that someone chooses a similar paint scheme, if they want it to look just like their plane, but I'm not at all opposed to sharing the design now that I own it. I have to get a disk from the lady yet so that I have it, but she gave me the last one that I had Sundowner logos made of. What you are proposing is exactly what would be cool from a cost perspective. Also, FYI, they can change colors just by changing threads, so as long as the pattern is similar, the colors can be whatever you wish. I did have the N-number and wording put in as part of the pattern, but most places should be able to just do the plane, and do the lettering separately below. Of course, if someone want's a design all their own, just email me offline and I'll send you the email address of the lady who does them. She sends the .jpg to some place in the Minneapolis area though for conversion....it may be that I can get her source direct for you. --> RV10-List message posted by: Eric Panning <ericmpmail-rv10@yahoo.com> Hi, I tried backriveting both top wing skins but quickly switched to standard both times. I had the heavy weight rec for it and an extended backrivet set. I found it was harder to get a good rivet bc my part time rivet partners are inexperienced with bucking. They would either press too hard or too little. For the rib rivets you would also need an offset backrivet set which was backordered at a number of suppliers when I needed it. (I also think the offsets absorb alot of the force and make -4's hard to set with my 2X gun) With standard riveting it is easier to recover (as long as they stay on the rivet) and I was happy with all of the rivets shot this way. I also put a piece of rivet tape over the rivets and this does a good job of protecting the skins from the mushroom head. He's the place where we'll be able to meet at every day for post-show activities. He says he's by Lindbergh and 52nd, actually between 52nd and 53rd. He's the 2nd motorhome from the end of the row, with a big Dolphinfish on the side, and a Georgia flag outside. So, when you're nearing the end of the day, head over that way for some fun. He's got a spot reserved right next to him for Jesse Saint's family's motorhome, so hopefully they'll be right there too. Can't wait to meet you all. If you're on the OSH list, look for Gary Specketers phone number if you need to get a hold of him. We'll also meet daily at 10:30 at Van's. Unless things change, my first show day will be Tuesday. I'll also be spending a bit of time showing my panel at SteinAir's booth. It's hanger B booth 2030. Too many minor things didn't make it in time to do a complete job, but the fun stuff is at least wired for power for some demos. See you there! Tim -- Tim Olson -- RV-10 #40170 DO NOT ARCHIVE

--> RV10-List message posted by: Rick <ricksked@earthlink.net> I backrevietd all but a few of the rivets on the top skins with great results. It took two of us about two hours to complete. I used the large 305 lb 1/2 of a dumbell looking bucking bar with plastic tape on the face, I can't recall wif I got it at Avery's or Cleveland but I did get the 12" long set from Clevealand. It worked grwat, I never could get the back rivet set from Avery to work, just bent ovet the rivets, they said if you had problems they would allow you to revturn it but I never did. I even called Jay Pratt and sked if he had any tips for that rivet set and he told me he could never get it to work either. The 12" set from Clevealand is the way to go...I highly recommend you try it. Feel free to contact me off list and I'll let you borrow mine for a small nominal fee (postage). It will save you $50. You do need to replace the tape every so often. Also a black dot in the center of the set. You can see the center of the set easily in the reflection off that nice shinny aluminum. --> RV10-List message posted by: Rick <ricksked@earthlink.net> Nah, slow build, just took less time to finish up the wings than I thought, I have the bottom skins to rivet, they are ready but I'm waiting to get a tech inspection before. I have wing tips to do and some other unfun things with fiberglass, lead time is 8 weeks, I have a lot of travel July through the end of August so I really can't do much anyhow. It's so blasted hot in the Las Vegas garage er um hanger that I'm not so sure I feel like playing out there much. Rick S. 40185 Wings, Fuse on order (not limbo) ;D

--> RV10-List message posted by: Tim Olson <Tim@MyRV10.com> Hugo, this might ease your mind a bit.... I just spoke with Randy. They had a late start due to weather I think. They made it to Custer, SD so far, and are having troubles obtaining fuel. He's travelling with a couple of RV-4's. Sounds like he's seeing numbers like 9.5gph in cruise on their trip so far, and some earlier speed checking showed about 168-173Kts ground speed over different directions. For the nautically impared, this is in the low 190's to pretty much right at 200mph. He indicated that he thinks from his experiences so far that his plane will basically be able to meet Van's posted numbers for N410RV, and his plane has a used prop and rebuilt engine. It also sounds like Van's thinks their's might be good for a couple more mph with the new blended airfoil prop too, so I believe that you should be pretty happy with the performance. Also, in travelling with the RV4's, he's burning within a couple of GPH more than they are, but going within a couple kts of the same speed....and, they're travelling heavy. For a 4 place plane, loaded up, to get that kind of efficiency is very pleasing. I'm burning 9-9.5gph right now in the Beech going 112Kts, so this will be a world of difference. Just thought I'd pass that on. Sounds like no hitches so far except for the fact that Custer's fuel pump is broken, and if they can't get someone to fix it, Randy might have to donate some of his extra fuel to at least one of the -4's that have smaller tanks, just to get to a field with fuel available. PS: Vic put in SafeAir tip tanks.....if you were going X/C, he'd be a great buddy to have around when the fuel pump doesn't work at the FBO. ;) Tim gommone7@bellsouth.net wrote: > --> RV10-List message posted by: <gommone7@bellsouth.net> > > I'm absolutly not worry about the exact numbers,by I like to have if > needed, and like any logical person,Iwill finish to fly normaly at 160 > -170 to save some liquid gold, plus I thinks if my plane do in excess > of 200 and normaly operate at 170 I allways have the reserve,I do not > like use my machines hanging from the neck all time.
