The install supports dual electronic ignitions and an all electric panel. The design is based on being able to continue IFR flight with the lost of the alternator and one battery until fuel exhaustion. If interested I'll send the power distribution diagram. Although the normal mode is to have both batteries on line, I have done some single battery op tests. One battery spins my O-360 just fine. Weight penalty of the additional battery is only ~6 pounds over the Concorde. Add in the related additional contactor(s) depending on the exact implementation and you're far lighter than the big Odyssey batteries that you're considering. Upside is that you'll get an additional layer of redundancy. The problem is that I want a supply that can push maybe 20-25A continuous for 15 minutes or more. Stein got a couple good ones for OSH...man were they big. I can go that route, but I figured if I needed a battery anyway, I may as well pick one up and just use it and have my 10A battery charger hooked up at the same time. I'm hoping that I'll be needing a battery in the plane by the end of the year anyway. Things are going slow right now, but I'm on multiple task branches....I think once I finsish some of these branches and focus on single tasks, I'll be moving quite fast again. Thanks to all for your input on the batteries. Subject: SATELLITE PROCESSING OF ELT SIGNALS ON 121.5 MHZ TO END IN
    2009
From: "RV Builder (Michael Sausen)" <rvbuilder@sausen.net>
Although many of you may have already read this I thought I would post it anyway as it effects everyone. SATELLITE PROCESSING OF ELT SIGNALS ON 121.5 MHZ TO END IN 2009 The FAA issued a notam Wednesday announcing plans to end satellite processing of emergency locator transmitter (ELT) distress signals broadcast over 121.5 MHz and 243 MHz on February 1, 2009. This comes at the request of the Cospas-Sarsat program, an international search and rescue program that uses satellite-aided tracking and is part of a transition to 406-MHz ELTs whose signals provide more information with greater accuracy than the current ELTs. "AOPA recognizes the benefits of the 406-MHz ELT but opposes any attempt to force pilots to upgrade. The unit alone costs about $1,000, with installation adding more to the cost. So the decision whether to upgrade or to keep the 121.5-MHz system should be left to the discretion of each aircraft owner," said Rob Hackman, AOPA manager of regulatory and certification policy. ELTs that transmit over 121.5 MHz will still satisfy FAA requirements and be legal after the transition date, but they will provide limited assistance in the event of an accident because a satellite will no longer receive their signals. They will still be monitored by the FAA and Department of Defense from the ground. The new 406-MHz ELTs use digital technology to transmit information specific to you and your aircraft, including your GPS coordinates and personal contact information. do not archive

    Subject: battery arrangement
I previously posted my arrangement for twin Odyssey 680s in the modified battery box. two master contactors are located there so that the starter can use either or both batteries; although will start on one primarily. During flight the primary master will be on to power the primary buss and be recharged by the alternator. The aux master will be off and the second battery will be trickle charged off the essential buss. The essential buss will be connected to the primary buss by a 40a breaker and a power diode. this will allow connection of the busses or isolation of the busses. Chelton and Garmin will operate off the essential buss, while primary buss will power the Digiflite II and the mundane stuff like strobes, nav lights, trim, pitot heat etc. I have a similar setup running for 200 hours on my Glastar. Runs fine hence the duplication for the 10.

I don't have a power diagram but I have included several photos. the power diode comes from http://www.bandcspecialty.com/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?7X358218#d-25. The switches are aircraft Potter and Brumfield pullable or toggable circuit breakers. Expensive but they are worth it. I must send pictures in three emails to keep size within limits; given the detail you should be able to see which breakers are used. ----- Original Message ----- From: LIKE2LOOP@aol.com To: rv10-list@matronics.com Sent: Friday, August 12, 2005 8:56 PM Subject: Re: RV10-List: Power diagram In a message dated 8/12/05 10:04:41 P.M.
