Subject: | FS: ANR Headsets |
--> RV10-List message posted by: Tim Olson <Tim@MyRV10.com>
I got some new Bose headsets to go in my -10 that's now flying,
so it's time to sell some of my previous headsets.
My previous headsets, all 4 pairs, were upgraded with the
ANR Headset upgrades from http://www.anr-headsets.com/
and also beyond that, a noise reducing kit similar to the
Oregon Aero Hushkit. (I got the materials and did it myself)
In addition I installed Gel earseals.
So these are very nice, very quiet, and good quality headsets,
and I would bet each pair cost me $300-350 by the time I
got done with them.
I have 2 pair for sale right now.
One pair is the Pilot Avionics P-51C Pilot Cadet's for kids:
http://www.pilot-avionics.com/html/html_root/juniorhead.htm
The other is a Flightcom 5DX:
http://www.flightcom.net/headsets/5dx-headset.php
with the ANR it would actually be closer to the
Classic ANR set though.
http://www.flightcom.net/headsets/classic-anr-headset.php
I was going to list them on ebay, but I thought I'd post
them here first in case someone was interested. I'm going
to Sun-N-Fun and depending on the dates you'd be there, I could
bring them along. If you're interested, I can send photos
and you can make an offer.

Hi Craig ...
You must be a rather smart dude to figure out an AOA instrument which works on
Delta P. There are a bunch of
us who would like to know more about your homemade creation. Is it possible for
you to share how you did it?

To all you industrious folks out there building RV-10's and interested in AOA
instrumentation: Having built 2 RV-4's and not willing to shell out the money
for a store-bought AOA, I made my own.................and it works fantastic
!! It includes an aluminum wedge with a small .060 drilled hole on each face
of the wedge to sense the difference of pressure, two lines going to the panel
instrument and the instrument itself is a Dwyer meter which measures 1/2
inch of water column at full deflection. I will NEVER build another RV without
having this instrument as my primary gauge for takeoff and landings. I
don't even look at the airspeed indicator any more while in the pattern: it's
irrelevant. Total cost for the homemade system? $100.00. Hope this can help
all of you on a budget, as I always seem to be :-)

I called Van's today and outlined my problem. They are aware of it but
don't have a fix yet. He wasn't sure when they might have one. So, I
devised my own.
I made two aluminum washers .030 one for each side of the spacers next to
the fork. Then I lubed up the bearing good and put a bead of JB Weld on the
inboard end of the spacer and mated it against the bearing. After cure I
trimmed it back to just clear the seal and yet claim all the metal surface
area possible. Not it looks like it is working like it was designed.

Gary, I had a similar problem with my nose gear. I kept getting a nose wheel
shimmy on roll out. First I re-tightened the fork (as recommended by Vans),
It loosens up after a while. I then noticed a lot of side play with the tire
and bearings. It seemed as though I was getting the torque on the bolt but
the sleeves were not compressing enough to tighten up against the bearings.
Vans suggested shortening the axle a little bit so that the fork would
squeeze the sleeves tighter against the bearing. After about ten landings,
the shimmy was back. I took it apart to find the sleeves had been ground
down to the shape of the bearings outer surface and every thing was
rotating. After a lengthy discussion with Vans ( they found a similar
problem on their first 10) they sent me two large diameter aluminum washers
( about 1/8 or more in thick) to put on the axle against the bearing to
provide more surface area to push against the bearings. You have to cut down
the steel sleeves by the thickness of the new washers. Haven't had a problem
since!! A few notes however ( for everyone ), apparently most RV's have
some shimmy during rollout( mine included). I still have a little in the
35kt range, but not nearly as extreme as before. Secondly, not all 10's are
having this problem for some reason. Van's is thinking about some sort of
solution such as replacing the existing steel sleeves with thicker material
that provides a better area to press against the bearings. I don't think at
this point that all builders should expect new parts heading their way as
some people are not having a problem. I would certainly call Bruce or Ken K.
and mention your problem for the record though and ask about the spacers I
got. Mark (40016) 45hrs.

Tim,
I'd be very interested in the 5DX headset. Could you send the pictures
and maybe a hack at what you hope to sell them for?
Thanks,
Marcus

Hey Marcus,
I'll have to get some pictures in a day or two. They're at the hanger
and I probably wouldn't have gone there until Thursday or friday, but
I can make a trip I guess in a day or two. I'm thinking maybe
I'd sell the kids for $235 and the adult 5DX for $260. I think I
have about $300 into the kids set and $325-350 into the 5DX if I
remember right. Oh, and they're all stereo.
