Rob,
Are you still coming out with a smaller, cheaper version of the AF-2500 that
interfaces with the Cheltons?

Subject: RV10-List: AFS EFIS Panel
Here are the answers to most of the questions:
1. The RV-10 Panel is from Lancair
2. The panel has the following in it
Pilot Side
AF-3500EF EFIS
TruTrak Digitflight II VSG
AFS AOA PRO
Pacific Coast Avionics Switches
CoPilot Side
AF-3400EE EFIS + Engine Monitor
CO Gardian CO Detector
AFS AOA Sport
Mountain High 4 Place Digital Oxygen System
Pegasus Compass
Artex ME406 ELT
Center
Garmin 396
Weather
TIS Traffic from GTX330
Music
PS Engineering Audio Panel
Garmin GNS 430
Garmin GTX330 Transponder
3. AF-3400 & AF-3500
Pricing
We will have final pricing before Sun-n-Fun. It will be between Dynon and GRT
CDI
The System will have CDI and Glide Slope from a Garmin SL-30. We are working
on and will have an ARINK-429 interface for the other Nav radios very soon.
AOA
The system will have an optional AOA that works with our Patented Wing Ports.
Screen Swapping
Yes the screens can share data and exchange displays.
Audio
The systems do have Verbal Audio warnings "Check Oil Pressure"
Engine Monitor
The system has all of the features of our current AF-2500 and more.
Processor Speed and Operating System
The systems have a very fast and low power CPU. WE DO NOT USE Windows CE, it
is all proprietary to us and very fast.
We currently have 4 software engineers working on the system and we will be adding
new features.

I was told by someone, who's opinion that I trust, that the reason the antenna
is on the top
is because when you are on the localizer your nose is pointed down thus somewhat
blocking
the antenna if it's on the bottom rear. That's why he said it's predominantly
installed on top of the VS.
I like the idea of putting it on the bottom where it's not so visible and I'm leaning
that way.

Rob...each screen is showing a PDF...is this panel considered IFR, I'm
assuming that the right PDF is in the reversionary mode...and the the handheld
Garmin is a situational awareness back up to the MFD generally the right screen
mode?

How about the invisible Bob Archer wingtip NAV antenna, as already mentioned.
Bob Archer's antenna is a gamma antenna. The whole airframe is the ground
plane.
It does work better than either the top or bottom mounted VOR dipole pair.
Just my $.02

No, I haven't received the handles yet. They are bringing them to me at Sun-N-Fun.
I think the delay has been getting the locks ready.
I've talked to them on the phone a couple of times and they seem like pretty
nice people.I'm assuming that they will have their tow bar
there also, so I'll let the list know about it. You can see both of these on there web site at www.cossaviation.com I'm not sure if I remember
what they told me for sure but I thought they said the bar was about $100.
I'll let you know when I get back from Sun-N-Fun what I've found out.

Do you know if there is a minimum distance that GPS antennas need to be
spaced if any?
I know COM's should be at least 30" and transponders should be at least
48" from anything else. But they will work if closer.

I've been working on my own door handle design. They are designed to
easily integrate with the Van's stock assembly. The lock simply keeps
one of the geared racks from opening when the lock is closed. We are
machining them this week. It consists of a new handle and lock assembly
as well as a larger button that fits over the current tube. I is just
three screws from the inside of the door to keep the front lock assembly
attached and then one screw for the handle just like Van's stock
assembly.

>From each other, nada. Some distance from transmitting antennas is always a good
thing but GPS is up in the 1500Mhz band well away from transponder (1050Mhz
ish) and our comms (low 100's). GPS is also polarized in a circular fashion
so unless they are real close it won't have any effect and even then it probably
won't.
Separate them from anything transmitting the best you can and you should be fine.

I see John has decided to sell his airplane. There is a note on Doug Reevs' site.
I am dying to know the asking price, does anybody know? I don't want to bother
him because Doug says not to call unless you are a serious buyer and I am
well into my fuse kit so definatly not shopping. I have seen several for sale
before completion but this is the first flying, proven airplane I have seen offered.
Just wondering what mine could be worth once in the sky.
Cheers..

It should not be difficult to beat the Cross Aviation door handles that
are $350 each. (Yes each $700 for 2 door handles).

Here's a link to an outfit that I've thought about using, I have no
experience with them and don't know the pricing, but they are set up to
take CAD inputs and produce machined parts, If Scott has a file that
would be compatible it would be interesting to see if they can make it
and what the price would be, particularly if we could get 10 or more
people to commit to parts the price might improve.

I am planning on taking the file to a few shops here in Salt Lake that I
have worked with in the past but I have access to some really nice
equipment at work that allows me to prototype quickly and check the
final fit. I should have the prototypes done this week and will fit them
on the plane if all goes well. I'll keep you all updated. I am
planning on selling them along with other items I am currently working
on.
Sorry about the spell check, it should have read, "It is just three
screws" on my original e-mail.

I is just
three screws from the inside of the door to keep the front lock assembly
attached and then one screw for the handle just like Van's stock
assembly.

Coss aviation may also be the company to produce the firewall forward
kit,
cowl and mount should the Innodn turbine ever get off the ground. Might
be a
topic to discuss at Sun'n Fun if you see them. Robin, I believe is the
owner.
For what it is worth.

Jesse, I don't have a price yet. I need to get the first one built and
tested. Should be soon though.

I'm producing door handles too!, completely interchangeable with the
Van's parts, it's also hiding the two screws in the door, I'm about to
machine the parts this week, decided to visit Sun & fun next week and
bring a sample with me, maybe we can try one at Tim's plane, if I can
meet Tim that is.
It took a very long time to get the right locking cylinders to mount in
the handles, I'm still waiting on a few sets, I only have one sample at
the moment.
