    Subject: OSH Update 7/23/06
--> RV10-List message posted by: "bcondrey" <bob.condrey@baesystems.com> Activity is picking up here. Michael Saussen stopped by to chat, a few folks with another RV-10 interior option dropped off some brochures and a 3rd RV-10 is here. This one is John Quint's, built by John Nyes. Also a correction to yesterday's post - the RV-10 identified as TruTrak's is actually Alex De Dominicis'. One of the interesting things that's happened is Garmin's ad on the back of the program. It announces a new product - the G600 which is touted as a retrofit type of EFIS so I assume it's available to the homebuilt crowd. Photo makes it look like a miniature G1000 and the ad refers you to their website for more info... Looks like there was a minor coordination issue, website as of yesterday had to mention of it. Photo of the ad is attached and we'll get more info tomorrow. File size might be a bit large but I didn't want to sacrifice the readability of the text. --> RV10-List message posted by: Tim Olson <Tim@MyRV10.com> Bob, I'll be coming in before noon most likely. Will see you guys shortly. Pass it on to Gary and John if you see them. I'll probably not check my email between now and Wed. so if anyone tries to get a hold of me, try the cell. Will catch up with everyone a little mid-week, and then fully after OSH. See everyone there! Glad to see they're showing up. Tim bcondrey wrote: > --> RV10-List message posted by: "bcondrey" > <bob.condrey@baesystems.com> > > Activity is picking up here. --> RV10-List message posted by: "Jae Chang" <jc-matronics_rv10@jline.com> Tim... No, I had not see that map before. Doesn't surprise me, though, considering making this map was fairly simple. We have google and its $120B market cap to thank for it! Looking forward to all of the OSH hilight reports! jae --> RV10-List message posted by: Tim Olson <Tim@MyRV10.com> Hey Jae, you've been busy!! Out of curiousity, did you ever see this list? http://www.frappr.com/rv10snorthamerica I don't know who started that one, but Mani passed it on to us a while back. It's amazing how many people there are, for one thing, and how you can hardly go anywhere without hitting a 10 builder. What a great crowd. Tim Olson - RV-10 N104CD - Flying do not archive

I took a hard look at the starter again and there appears to be no damage anywhere, other than what you get when spinning parts touch each other without engaging. No cracks, etc. I've attached a couple pictures in case that helps someone decipher what's going on. It is a Sky-tec starter on an Aerosport IO-540A4D5. I was wondering if there's any chance the starter comes with different size gears and perhaps I got the smaller version? The odd thing is it worked great for awhile. I cranked it for almost 10 seconds before I realized fuel wasn't getting to the engine yet and it spun great. Then it worked a few more times before the engine came to life. After that it was nothing but trouble. Thanks, Marcus Do not archive th _____ [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Marcus Cooper Sent: Saturday, July 22, 2006 8:07 PM I finally got to start my engine today for the first time which was quite motivational. However, after letting it run for a couple minutes and checking it over for leaks I tried to start it again. This time I was greeted by a horrendous squeal and the prop not spinning as fast as before while starting. I shut it all down and it appears the starter is no longer engaging properly. It wore a little of the outside aft edge of the flywheel and looks like either the starter gear is too small, or somehow it suddenly was able to drift a little further from the flywheel and no longer mates up properly. The starter mount nuts look secure and the factory paint cues are still in place so I am stumped. With the starter gear retracted it looks like the gears will just barely overlap when it extends. I am open to any and all thoughts, theories and suggestions. Thanks, Marcus (was hoping to get inspected today, delayed until next weekend - possibly more pending the engine issue) Do Not Archive

--> RV10-List message posted by: <jim@combsfive.com> Marcus, It's hard to tell but the gear pitch does not look the same. I went to the Skytech Web site and found a PDF showing the correct starter for a given engine. http://www.skytecair.com/Fit_Guide.htm You might check this out. Jim Combs N312F #40192

I do know that in general there are different numbers of teeth, depending on your flywheel . . . --> RV10-List message posted by: "Marcus Cooper" <coop85@bellsouth.net> Thanks for the effort, very helpful. Mine is a model 149-12LSX which (except for the X which I assume is for experimental) it should be good to go. I am giving strong consideration to switching from the Hartzell 2 bladed blended foil prop to the 3 bladed MT Prop. If there is any RV10 people at OSH checking their e-mails and you happen to go past the MT booth could you please see if they are having any show specials? Also if there is anyone that might be interested in buying a new Hartzell Blended Foil prop let me know. I live near Dallas. Thanks for any help on this. Wayne, I may be interested in your prop. Do you have it now? How much do you want? You can respond offline.
