I would agree with Kevin. While Dick Russ has modified his door seals for
the Cherokee recently to address the issue of people ripping the lower seal
while getting in and out of the aircraft, it is awkward at best. If the
seal is totally on the door, then there is almost no risk of getting damaged
by passengers.

Kevin,
I installed these in my Piper, and have been disappointed. Not so much with
the product but how they've worked. IMHO in the Piper the location is not
the best...it should be on the door and not in the opening. Feet catch on
them along with hands and the rivets in the door pull the foam away from the
planes frame.
In an experimental you can get your own closes cell foam and try with out
spending $70 to get similar results. But please do what you think best. As
I said I was disappointed with this product in a Cherokee and it was most
probably due to the foam location and not the product itself.
Just my opinion, though...

How does this stuff differ from weatherstripping I can buy at Lowes?
Sure looks the same!

One thing to consider here is that there are now two extra holes in a
structural piece that were not envisioned by the aircraft designers. I
usually try to avoid putting any additional holes in pieces that hold the
engine or gear or flight surfaces securely

Where did you find those connectors?

Here is one option. There are two similar ground connectors mounted above
and below the triangular reinforcement where the firewall and top longeron
meet. There are at least thirty ground pins available in each connector.
The paint was removed under the mounting. I am planning to also terminate
the large ground lead from the engine on the same triangular reinforcement.

Hey guys, I thought you'd find this tidbit interesting...
Today I finally flew the box to verify my airspeed indication.
having the Gretz pitot, which I was one of the first to get,
always made me wonder how it would do, since it has a slightly
different shape. Today I found out I had a slight pitot
error, but I'm not sure if it was in the pitot tube,
or if it's because I haven't ever done a temperature
calibration on my OAT with my Chelton, or if it's because
I haven't done any airspeed calibration in any units.
At any rate, what I found was that after a very smooth
and level flight at the 4 cardinal headings, indicating
the same exact IAS and TAS, I plugged the numbers into both
an online java tool, and a spreadsheet, both available on
Kevin Horton's site:
http://go.phpwebhosting.com/~khorton/rv8/phplinks/index.php?&PID=49
What I found was that while I was leisurly bumming around
doing 130kts IAS, and 146kts TAS, that my actual TAS was
152.5. The Standard Deviation was 0.0, so the recording was
very exact and came out fantastic. I'm now going to have to
figure out if I can calibrate something better to make it
read more accurately, but even if it doesn't, it's nice to
know that the speeds I've been reporting are about 6kts
low in cruise. ;)

It has a memory, so that once it has taken a set, it doesn't fight the
door, but does provide a good seal. I don't think you will find any
thing quite like it in the home depot/lowes type store.
Contrary to Patrick's experience, I have it on my plane, no problem, but
I rarely carry anyone but my SO..so maybe we are more careful than the
average passenger. It isn't a big deal to splice in a replacement piece
if it does get damaged.
I'm curious about the comment that Dick Russ somehow changed the seal
for the Cherokee? I don't see anything on his website to indicate any
change.
