--> RV10-List message posted by: "Mark Ritter" <mritter509@msn.com> Hi Les, I'm number 43 and received my tail kit 11/1/03. Six hundred kits shipped in three years is an amazing success story. --> RV10-List message posted by: Link McGarity <wv4i@bellsouth.net> I run a Van's 35A alternator (not the 60A) in my RV6 with over 500TTAF. It is the original alternator. 2-3 yrs ago, started to see system voltage go to battery voltage intermittently in flight. Thinking this was a temp related problem, replaced plug on back of alternator, checked belt tightness, etc.. No help. Next replaced Van's supplied voltage regulator (located in cockpit behind instrument panel) with another Van's VR, same part no, but slightly different style, wiring, etc. Problem fixed. --> RV10-List message posted by: Tim Olson <Tim@MyRV10.com> Some of them aren't all that recent, but should be a good start. If there are builders willing to fax me their recent kit contents lists as they get their new kit sections, I can post updated ones that have any changes. 715-858-1681 and it will do a fax-to-tif that I can easily post. Black out your personal info before faxing if you want. Another good option is to scan them and print into a .pdf if you have that capability. On all of the subkits, you can contact Van's and have them fax or email a copy of the inventory. I had to do this myself for the Finish and FWF packages so I could go through and remove or change things like the cowl and alternator. I then just made a list of the parts I wanted added or removed and they requoted the kits. With my various changes I think it reduced the cost of both kits by about $5,000 USD. Removing the bulky items like the cowl will hopefully also reduce the shipping charge a little. A lot of this stuff is hard to find in the plans until you've gone through them at least 48.2 times! 28-17 Figure 1 shows drilling through the LG bracket, 28-18 figure 1 shows installing nutplates and enlarging holes for AN-3 bolts. I have a question for you: The forward brace of the LG bracket shows fastening to the floor by 2 AN3-5A bolts but the picture and description gives no clue as to what and how you fasten it (see P. 29-21). I have gone through the plan book and can find no reference or even instructions for drilling. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Robert Vinroot 40343 Rob Wright <armywrights@adelphia.net> wrote: I finally bit the bullet and did it right (IMHO). I took my Columbus Day and removed the gear brackets, fwd floor pans (only a few rivets in each to hold them) and the covers for the control sticks that screws to the front of the seat area. Then I vacuumed, cleaned, primed the areas, laid the Super SoundProofing with Sticky Stuff, and then reinstalled everything. Total time spent was all day, 12 hours. Hardest part was getting the bolts out of the holes that go through the spar areas. There's not a whole lot of room for fingers and tools, so you just have to work at it. Backing the bolts out was VERY tedious. I took a few pics and will try to post some. Oh, another thing. If you are shorted a few snap bushings and don't want to have to pay Van's or someone else shipping on some $.07 bushings, do what I did - on the bushing itself is the name of the company, HEYCO, in Tom's River, NJ. After realizing that my local supplier didn't carry them and the minimum order was in the 1000's of parts, I went to the website, www.heyco.com <http://www.heyco.com/> . Heyco has a sampling service where you can type in the part number that you need (up to 6 I think) and tell them how many you would like to sample. Not to be greedy, I asked for 6 of two different sizes and they arrived in the mail today. I also asked for a catalog to check their other goodies.. The section on installing the steps is my favorite section that I've come across for some time now. On the QB Fuse some things seem harder than the slow build, just because you've got to figure out what's been done down to the last rivet driven or intentionally left open (I had to drill out a few that were in the wrong spots). Seems like the folks across the pond and Van's are trying to keep the playing field level by doing 98% of the pre-install work on this section. Shoving the steps in and torqueing the bolts took all of .5 tonight, and that included deburring some high spots on the #12 holes.. Rob Wright #392 Loving the QB Fuse build.today at least!

Subject: Question for the tool mavens
Hi Over the past few days I have been assembling all the miscellaneous power tools that I need to start construction. One in particular has me a bit perplexed. I just bought a Ryobi 9=94 band saw that came with a wood blade. I put a new =BC=94 x 14 tooth / inch blade in. The blade specs say it is ok for non ferrous materials at a reduced speed. Unfortunately this band saw does not have a speed adjustment. It is rated to cut a constant speed of 3000 fpm. I have tried cutting a test piece of 2024 and it seems ok but I am out of my depth as to what is acceptable and safe. My question is, show I find a variable speed band saw or will this one do. Opinions? Inquiring minds need to know. Les Kearney RV10 #643 ' Inventorying a plethora of bags containing wee tiny tail kit parts Do not archive

Les, I have the same one and it works fine. I did by the largest metal blade I could though - I found the 1/8" in blade flexed too much. Other than that it's fine. One in particular has me a bit perplexed. I just bought a Ryobi 9" band saw that came with a wood blade. I put a new =BC" x 14 tooth / inch blade in. Les Kearney RV10 #643 - Inventorying a plethora of bags containing wee tiny tail kit parts Do not archive
