Actually sending the fuel back to a tank is the ideal method. But if
your wings are sealed, that would be a job and a half I would think. The
whole idea is to cool the engine driven fuel pump. To 'T' the hot
between the selector and the engine driven pump would be a last resort.

I can't imagine why you couldn't do it that way, but if you are trying
      to
purge hot fuel and replace it with cold fuel, it is better to put the
      hot
fuel on the tank side of the selector so you can get cold fuel out of
      the
other tank from the side you are putting the hot fuel in. I think Allen
Barrett said that just mixing the hot fuel with the cold fuel aft of the
firewall would be good enough, but I like the idea of sending it to the
      tank.

      Does this make sense?

I've read about 6-way valves and purge valves etc., but haven't had
anyone tell me why the return (for any reason) can't be Td into the line

somewhere between the selector and the mechanical fuel pump. It seems a

      far simpler solution to me.

Yes, it is a pipe thread and it is tapered. Be careful and do not
tighten it too much as you might spread the flange in the tank and
      crack it!

Not that it's a bad suggestion, but I'd really like to just
get these things made and get them in people's hands.
I just weighed one, and it looks like 3.6oz each, so it
should easily fit into the USPS flat boxes and it's
I think only $4.05 or at most $4.85 for shipping then. That
way everyone has them, and they feel happy to have spent
the money because they actually received them. With today's
issues, reminded by the recent D2AV debacle, I'd rather
see them out the door and not have anyone waiting too long.
Just saw Symphony aircraft closed up and left it's deposited
buyers holding nothing.....the assets of the company won't
cover the deposits they'd owe. So since Sh-tuff happens,
I'd like to just see everyone satisfied a.s.a.p.

BTW: We're up to 97 people so far.

I spoke with the machining company today to verify the design
with him since I changed it a tad from the original quote,
and to stress that I wanted 3/4" threaded depths. They're
doing it on CNC and they may buy some special taps to do the
threads that deep in aluminum. I asked about leadtime and
he thinks about 2 weeks would do it. Price wise, he
said the big drop was 20 to 40 quantity, and while it may drop
more, it probably won't drop much from the $17.75 previously
quoted. Disappointing to hear, but understandable since
they gain the efficiency by doing a certain quantity for
machine setup, but beyond that the efficiencies get smaller and
smaller. I'll doublecheck with another place in town too.

As for hardware, from ACS I can get all the hardware except I
it looks like I can quite get 300 of the stainless screws today...
so unless they get stock before they ship (they're supposed to)
there may be some that can only go out with 2 screws, instead
of the 3. I just added 1 to each hardware item to guarantee
if you broke/damaged/lost one you'd have a spare. I'm sure
that won't be a deal killer for anyone though....one screw.
But, if they get them in stock, I'll get them here.

      So we're looking good.

| Subject: | Axle Extension List is now CLOSED |

Well, what started as a great little fix to a weak part,
by Russ Daves, has blossomed into a huge undertaking
and a good improvement to the RV-10 design.

Originally I didn't know for sure if we'd get 20 people
who wanted Axle Extensions. Boy was I wrong.

I'm having machined at least 320 of them, for over 150
people around the world. The quoted costs to do these
parts was originally $125 per pair as passed to the list
by other people, but with a bit of effort on economizing
everything as much as possible except for sacrificing on
part design, the end price will be LESS than $40 per pair
to the lucky OVER 150 people who got on the list.

I doubt I'll ever take on a hair-pulling event like this
again, as it is harder than I thought to get all the
addresses and logistics sorted out, but it sure was a
great thing this time. Perhaps in the future a more
"for profit" thing will be available.

Sorry to have to add this, but, the list is now CLOSED.
You can inquire, but no guarantees at this point, as
much of the stuff has been ordered and paid for.
If you still need them, feel free to ask, and for a
couple days I'll file your emails away.

Thanks everyone, for putting up with the bandwidth on
      the list this week!

NOTE: If you're one of the people receiving the extensions,
I'll be contacting you via email probably later today to
give all the final details on price, timelines, and
payment. I think everyone will be pretty happy with how
      this all ended up.

      Yes Tim,

      add me to the list.

Since I'm located in Germany I will try to arrange a delivery spot in
US. I will tell you a shipping address soon.

      Thanks for doing this.

Although I'll be one of those who isn't getting it, I did get one thing out
of this. It is rare to have someone do what you did Tim, let alone handle
150 orders for everyone with no self profit. I'm sure most will be sending a
gift certificate with their checks in gratitude however.. I sure would!
I said it last week and once again it is proven, this truly is a special
group and once again it appears you are leading it Tim.
      Thanks!

Sorry, I just realized that it's only Wednesday a.m.
and I told people I'd take the orders until Thursday.
I guess I jumped the gun in my excitement to stop
taking names. Anyway, since the material is ordered,
I'll still call it done. Sorry for my mistake. At
least the signup traffic had dwindled a lot in the
last 24 hours as many people had signed up.
All the parts have been ordered already, so it's
too late to correct my mistake and keep going.
If there is still a huge call for these later,
      I'll try to assist again.

Tim (feeling a little stupid) ;)

I think you should do this yearly for those of us way behind in the building
this year. Maybe throw some other things in too and do it for a slight
profit so you can pay for the gas to continue "testing" your products!

I thought a good sized bald spot was required for the svelte RV

      bucking bars.

      John,

I would (will) get one of Van's 1/8 NPT manifolds to mount under the panel.
Alternatively you could use an AN917-1D (Spruce) if you only need two
branches. Then plumb the 1/16" tube to it, and branch it off to anything
else that needs MP. McMaster-Carr has a huge selection of fittings with 1/8
NPT to barbs. Use Kynar, or brass if plastic makes you nervous. I've used
plastic for MP aft of the firewall many times.

Call me if I can help further.

      David:
I used almost all of the ideas you've read about and they worked to varying
degrees; they just took a little longer. In a fit of weakness, I bought those
ridiculously priced washer wrenches and they're really sweet and work well. If
you'd like to borrow them, let me know and I'll run 'em over to you.

      John,
Order the 1/4 barb from ACS that replaces Vans in the firewall. You can
also get an adapter from any auto store.........they use them for the v
acuum lines in cars. Heater lines or winshield washer lines.

Right now, for US based people, I'm thinking that it should end up being
in the $45-50 USD range when all is said and done.
For those overseas, people like Dan and Mike will work with you to come
up with an economical way to do it, so it adds the least cost. I've
never shipped to the UK, NZ, AU, or anywhere like that, so I have no
      idea myself.

I don't want any checks sent until at LEAST the time that I have a 100%
solid manufacture cost and shipping cost and supplies. Then I should be
able to give an exact amount and at that point I'll be happy to get
checks coming this way. Hopefully everyone can get a check out within
the week that they receive them at least.
