Subject: | Re: Another hardware choice????? |
I'm surprised ACS wouldn't have them. I'd try calling them. But,
the best advice I can give on those is to pick a couple of the
common ones, like the #8 screw ones, and order a couple dozen
minimum as spares. Over time I came to rely on my excess supply
because I was constantly short, and as you approach the end of the
build you'll find lots of uses for them as you customize things.
The only way to prevent the headaches is to just stock up on
the screws/nuts/washers and common hardware that you use, and
build up your own supply. You'll pay part of it in
repeat shipping anyway if you don't.

We do not use any treatment on the inside of the tanks. Once they are

Are people priming the outside of their tanks?

I alodined my tanks inside just because that's how my Beech was, but
I wouldn't say that it's necessary at all. I think most people
would not do that just for simplicity sake. You definitely
don't want to paint, prime, or apply any type of removable coating to
the tanks skins inside. To the outside, you just do the same
as you would for the rest of the plane.

Hello group,
I just ran across this video which shows the impact of a 4lbs bird (simulated by
a jelly ball of similar size, weight and consistency).
Natural Composite with 4 lbs bird at 775 fps
(Ma = 0.713) (4.1 Mb Filesize)
Pretty impressive, check it out.

I alodined the tank parts on my -10. Partially for consistency and
partially because I used a dip tank for the skins and other parts so it
was unavoidable to do both sides of some of the parts.

Subject: | Prop/Engine "Sag"Question |
I've heard the 4 bagger guys say 1/4" so I added to that since the 6 cylinder
sits out there even further. I setup my Cowl for 3/16" and now with 210 hours
on it, it has settled about 1/4", so I would say use 1/4" as your starting point,
not 3/16" and you should be good. I am now going to shim behind my mounts
with a steel washer to get it bang on.

Subject: RV10-List: Prop/Engine "Sag"Question
For those who have finished your plane or previous planes. I'm
interested in your real life experience regarding whether you've
experienced or noticed any sag in your engine since initially mounting
it. I've heard that after a hundred or two hundred hours that the engine
will settle on the mounts which results in the prop dropping ( 1/8",
3/16", 1/4" , ?????). Is this a real phenomena or an urban airport myth?
If its real, how much 'sag' have you experienced? I'm leery of adding a
'fudge factor' not knowing exactly what it should be, and 1/8" tolerance
isn't what I'd like to achieve. Am I striving for the holy grail? It
seems like there ought to be a better way to ensure things fit after
flying for a while I'm in the process of installing my cowl and would
like to have it and the spinner mate evenly when it's all said and done.
Thanks for any information received

I-i-i-it's c-c-cold u-u-p here! -20F this a.m. so school's got

Sorry Guys, It was 68 here in Vegas, blue skies, and light breeze. Girls
were in their Bikini's and all is well.

Yeah, it is cold up here where we are (on vacation in the FL panhandle). I
went outside today and had to wear a jacket and stocking cap as it was in
the low 50's. Man, I can't wait for summer. :-)

I didn't say WE didn't have girls in bikinis here too....they're just
lots bigger and well insulated with the hair and blubber. This is
the Cheese state after all.

Hey all -
just sitting around staring at the James cowl that I picked up this
evening from the freight station, and I wondered... when you call ATC
and you're flying an RV, what do you call yourself? I know about 97% of
you guys just rolled your eyes, but I've never flown in an RV of any
type. Or anything experimental at all. Do you say "experimental 12345
downwind abeam" or what? Inquiring minds want to know.

Don't know if it's Bush's fault, but wild temp swings are abnormal - it was
60 in January in MI and now it's -10.
Too cold to work in the shop - even with our new wood-fired furnace.

FAR's say that on your first call you must identify yourself as Experimental
123XX but I notice after that sometimes if they have time they want to know
more. Once spent 10 min talking about RV's to ATC in a quite sector. He was
building a 9A.

You've got it right. "Experimental <N-Number>, 10 miles East at 6500'
inbound with Oscar" For filing, I had been filing HXB/G, but now that
I hear "RV10" is in the system, RV10/G should work too. Usually
ATC asks what kind of plane we are, when they see the speeds we're
making....then I tell them I'm an RV10.

Every good Democrat blames Bush for everything. Now that Van is off the
hook, I am sure all of our building challenges are because of Bush as
well.

happening.

Before HRII flight this morning I clicked three times on my handheld as I
arrived at APV. Winds calm, visibility "more than 10 miles", temps in the
mid 60's and new addition to in the APV pattern...a PT-26 Fairchild Cornell.
Just purchased with the new owner getting some stick time with his
instructor. KABONG Do Not Archive
