Dan, how did Lancair customers get the shaft? The deal I was given after the
D2A fiasco seemed reasonable : $1400 for a Xbow, and $2600 for a pinpoint,
along with $1400 credit at Aerocraft parts. This equates to a "free"
Crossbow, if you were going to buy the parts anyway.

Steve,
What happened to the door lock that was integrated into the handle that
you showed back in November?
Do you have an approximate price point?

Jeff,
I have one of two that came off an Aztec. It's essentially the same as the D4B5.
So far I have not had any issues with the installation. Not flying yet though.
I also get a Hartzel prop and they had an STC for the prop on this particular engine
with no AD's or RPM limitations.
Both engines off this particular Aztec went to RV-10 builders.
I pulled the hydraulic pump and the vacuum pump off my engine. I plan on keeping
the 70 amp alt too.

I just finished fitting the main gear supports into the fuse floor structure.
The plans call for double flush rivets in the spar, but not on the F1004K L/R.
The shop heads on the aft six rivets would not allow the gear support to line up
with the holes in the spar, so they are now double flush, like the spar.

Hi Jeff,
I too have a C4B5 off an Aztec. I got it at Wentworth in Minneapolis.
Where are you located? I believe, but don't know yet for sure, that
this engine can be overhauled to D4A5. The gentleman that is
overhauling mine is researching that for me.

Oops - I mistakenly dimpled a hole in one of the flanges on a tail cone
frame (where the longeron attaches). It flattened right out when I squeezed
it with a rivet set. Is this OK? I wouldn't think a whole row would be a
good idea, but just one?

$1400 in credit at full retail prices equates to more money in his
pocket and less in his customers. An offer to make your customers whole
does not include forcing them to purchase additional items from you at
retail....My .02 of course.

In addition to my other comments, you paid for a working system, does it
seem right to you that your vendor, who took your money, offers to split
the cost with you? Kind of strange in my book. The point being is that I
was giving a reference for Stein, who made his customers whole by
delivering the system that they ordered and paid for. He did not make us
split it with him and get a credit to use at a later date at full retail
pricing.

That's what I bought, and overhauled it with the help of an friend who
is an IA. If you look through the Lycoming parts manual, you'll see
that the C4B5 is part-for-part identical to the D4A5, except for some
different choices regarding selection of oil filler neck (as I recall).
The Lycoming tech reps at Oshkosh verified this, and said that the C4B5
can be run just like the D4A5 (2700 RPM, 260 HP) with no ill effects.

This engine has been sitting for 7 years. The Aztec just sold on ebay
for 16,000 and this guy is now parting out on Barnstormers. Be Careful

Hi larry, there is a provision for a keylock in the handle body.(hidden from
view in the pics) The prob is the cylinder will be proud of the door skin. I
left the option up to the builder. And it can be added later..
The second option, which I'm using in this install, is the interior lock to
secure the door. When the billet handle is closed all the way the interior
handle will also close and latch. There is a small hole where I insert a
1/8" pin to "unlock" the door. Keeps it simple and secure, no keys to loose.
I'm still hammering out the numbers with the machinists, and cost will be
based on volume, but this first run will sold at 575 complete with all
hardware and instructions. And the cool thing is it'll retrofit easily into
a flying aircraft...

Subject: | Is It OK to Flatten a Dimple? |
Looks like no one is answering your question. In general, as you already
know this is a bad idea. But as you said one probably won't be an issue. You
may want to wet rivet it with a small dab of proseal or other bonding
material to help prevent any cracks that might have or will be forming when
the rivet expands.

Yup, those are the handles that I based mine on, also the south African one
is very similar. It's a great design, just needed a few tweaks....i actually
wanted the original manufacturer (who supplies acs) to make a modified
version for me for the rv10, and his price was waay off. He actually told me
he was going to advertise in the trade pubs (sport av, kitplanes, etc) and
start to sell direct to public this spring. (probably at acs price so not to
conflict)
