I used the poprivet dimpler which came with the Avery Toolkit. Worked fine, no
issues at all.

Of course, a popt rivet dimpler would work fine. Not only that, I have
one and have used it. That's what I get for trying to work on 3 hours
of sleep. I knew there was an answer but just couldn't compute.
Thanks to all who pointed to the solution. I like the die mod that
would permit taping the die to the yoke. That would work too. For the
slow builders, it's smart to do the dimpling and fitting before assembly
but leaving the final installation of the stall warning system until
call for in the plans.
I got a good night's sleep and ready to go now.

Talking about competition, there is a coupon in the last Sports Aviation
magazine from Trutrak. Basically if you send the coupon and a check for
a $100 made out to Young Eagles they will give you $200 off a basic
autopilot. With the purchase of a more expensive system the Young Eagles
donation and saving scale up. It's not on their full page ad but towards
the back of the magazine. If you're in the market for something from
Trutrak (ADI not mentioned in ad) check it out. Sound like a good deal
for everyone involved.

GRT believes that they will be better than what Bluemountain and Chelton

I was just talking to them and they said it does not work for any of the
instruments, just the auto pilots. I understand they decided to do this
before calculating all of the costs, but they are sticking with it. The
coupon will be in the April, May, June and July issues of Sport Aviation.

Sorry so late to reply. Just got back from Vaca with
almost 500 emails to catch up on.
I can report that this access hatch will almost certainly
be an oil-canning problem for many/most builders. I had to
add stiffners in both directions around my access hole
too. Not a big deal, but just make sure when you buy a kit
section to buy a couple of 6 or 8' lengths of aluminum
angle for things like this. I'm not unhappy with the stall
switch. I personally wouldn't need the voice warning on an
AOA, as the EFIS already calls out "Stall" for you. When
the system is set up right, it can fairly accurately read
a stall warning within 2-3kts of actual stall speed. I leave
mine set slightly higher, and it is calculated based on
G-loading and such. But the buzzer is still there...not
so much a necessity, but an option.

Hello,
We are writing to let the group know that because of time contraints (our age)
and the time needed to sell our house before we could have purchased the rest
of the kit, regrettably, we are going to sell our tail kit we purchased for the
RV10. We guess we were overly exuberant in our time estimate. We attended a formal
one-on-one class at Synergy Air in Eugene, Oregon to finish the empennage,
had the tail cone section and longerons crated at VANS, have done a complete
inventory, and everything is here. The empennage turned out beautifully, thanks
to Synergy, and we were under close supervision. We used the tools at Synergy
to construct our empennage but we also bought an almost new set of tools
with rivet gun, Sioux drill, Cleveland Main Squeeze, C frame, etc, worth $1600
new, which we can include in a package deal.
If anyone is interested in buying our tail kit, Please e-mail us at cloudvalley@comcast.net
or call us at (541) 998-2755 . Our cell is (541) 520-7058. Ask for
Ruth or Brian Preston.
We are sorry we won't be able to go via the building route. It would have been
exciting. We have decided that when we sell we will buy a production plane so
we can fly sooner! Thanks.

2 people could manage, but 3 would be great.
With 3 people, just to slip them in, figure 20 minutes...it's
easy. To drill the rear spar you're still not talking a lot
of time.
No big secrets with the bolts. I used hardware store bolts
for the temporary fitting, with the threaded section ground
off to prevent scraping, and used the large bolts that came
with my QB Fuse wing center section too....that way my real
bolts were saved for the real full install. Grease the bolts
up before sliding them in.
The whole job on an RV-10 is pretty easy.

It can be done with 2 people probably, but it would be best to have 3 or 4.
You should be able to hang both wings to the point of being able to "let go"
in about 15-20 minutes each if that. For the bolts, you could put them in
the freezer to cool down (and maybe shrink a little) ahead of time, although
I don't know if that really makes a difference. Just grease the bolts with
some kind of lithium grease and slide/drive them in. I would recommend
using a hardware store bold with the threads ground down in two of the small
holes to line everything up, then run the final bolts through while someone
"wiggles" the outboard end of the wing. Then, before putting on the nuts,
make sure to clean any grease off the threads with something like Acetone to
make sure it comes off.

I've just assumed going the Duckworks HID route, unless I hear somebody say otherwise.
I'd prefer an AOA over a stall tab, especially with the the negative comments made

Subject: | Rosen Sun Visor Group Buy |
Sorry for the quality, but I have attached some pictures of our Rosen Sun
Visor installation. I am getting a quote on our custom mount from a local
machine shop and am getting a quote from Rosen on a group buy for the
visors. We tried to find a place on the sides to install a visor, but there
just isn't a good place to put it that won't block the pilot's vision when
he isn't using the visor. This is a 3-axis visor, so it can be used to
block sun from the pilot or copilot's front anywhere in the windshield and
can also block the pilot's right or copilot's left. Unfortunately we
couldn't find any way to block the sun from the pilot's left or copilot's
right except a suction cup or static cling piece. The visor base would
mount on the cabin top using two of the 4 screws that hold the front bar to
the cabin top.
Please let me know off the list if you are interested and I will put a list
together and let you know when I know how much it would cost. I am hoping
to keep it under $200 including the visor (big or small lense) and the
custom black-anodized base.

local machine shop and am getting a quote from Rosen on a group buy for
the visors. We tried to find a place on the sides to install a visor,
but there just isn't a good place to put it that won't block the pilot's
vision when he isn't using the visor. This is a 3-axis visor, so it can
be used to block sun from the pilot or copilot's front anywhere in the
windshield and can also block the pilot's right or copilot's left.
Unfortunately we couldn't find any way to block the sun from the pilot's
left or copilot's right except a suction cup or static cling piece. The
visor base would mount on the cabin top using two of the 4 screws that
hold the front bar to the cabin top.
Please let me know off the list if you are interested and I will put a
list together and let you know when I know how much it would cost. I am
hoping to keep it under $200 including the visor (big or small lense)
and the custom black-anodized base.

Subject: | Re: Rosen Sun Visor Group Buy |
Interestingly, last year before and after Sun-N-Fun, I had worked with
Mike from Rosen on getting a custom RV-10 system put together. I
created templates, he sent parts, we started to lay out an RV-10 system,
and then they just got too busy and started blowing the RV-10 project
off for other things. At OSH, they said they were still too busy, and
ever since they haven't had time either. But, I did spend some time
getting a design together but they just needed to come up with one
custom bracket and then the RV-10 would be able to have dual visors
that would not only work on boths sides, but could be flipped
completely out of the way too. I was hoping that one day they'd
spend the time to finish up, because it would be a nice system.
From the looks of it, although having one visor is a HUGE improvement,
it's still far from ideal and is a real compromise in quality from
what you'd get with a system in something like a mooney or a
bonanza....so it would be great to see the project taken further.
Rosen did say that they could easily create custom shaped visors, but
they just didn't have the time to make the custom mount that I was
working up for them. My intention is to still go that route, even if
they don't do the mount themselves. I think with them making come
custom shaped visors, it wouldn't be too hard to get someone to make
a quantity of mounts and have a pretty slick RV-10 system. I may have
to get a prototype made though so it can prove itself. Too bad they
don't see the value of the RV-10 market like some companies.

We looked at every place that it could be put and the only place that would
not be in the way is right where the pictures show. I thought we could do
it on the outer top corners, but that would really be in the way when not in
use because the corners don't go out as far as a car, so your view would be
quite limited when not using the visor because it would hang down so far
(when putting it far enough out that it wouldn't be riding on your head).
We got both of the Rosen standard mounts and neither of them worked
anywhere, so we decided to make our own and it works very well. The main
decision is whether to go with a 5x12 inch visor as shown, or a 10x12 inch
one, which would provide more protection, but would also be more in the way.
The visor can be put up against the cabin top when not in use while flying
or when parked and if you have seatbelt and headset hangars like we have,
then you can just align it with the bar and it is out of the way when
parked.

Could anybody who has the bar as it comes from Van's give me the dimensions
between the holes so I can have the machine shop make them at those exact
locations? This would help make a better fit for most people, although
going to the final size, especially in steel, still wanders around a little
bit, which shouldn't be too big of a problem.

Subject: | Rosen Sun Visor Group Buy |
I saw a RV10 with Rosen mounts in the outer corners.........the mount bo
lts go thru the door channel. Visors swing to cover the windshield or r
otate to cover the door windows. I did not care for more screws in the
door channels BUT it is better than thru the cabin top or only having O
NE visor.

P.S. Anyone putting UHMV tape over the top of the cowl where the top co
wl pins are to protect the paint when inserting the pins? Also consider
ing putting it on the front of the cowl around the spinner hole to prote
ct the paint when removing or putting the lower/upper cowl on. Hate to
rub it against the spinner and scratch the paint ...........thinking tha
t clear UHMV tape would help and not detract from the looks?

I purchased CreativeAir LED nav lights, strobe kit, and integrated HID
lights.

Everything fits in the wing tips. Have not installed them yet though.
