Hello,
I received yesterday my QB fuse and there is a dent in the front of the firewall
where you attach the cowling. Do you thing it is ok to just bend it up again
and make it straight?
Any suggestions which method would work best?

P.S. Anyone putting UHMV tape over the top of the cowl where the top cowl

If I or anybody else comes out with a way to mount it on the outside
corners, it would be easy to get another visor and put the first one and the
new one on the outside corners. The mount would then not be useable, but
the new mount would replace it anyway. We could have put it on the outside
corners with screws through the door channel, but the problem is that it
would be in the way quite a bit with no way to get it completely out of the
way so it didn't obstruct visibility.

Interestingly, last year before and after Sun-N-Fun, I had worked with
Mike from Rosen on getting a custom RV-10 system put together. I
created templates, he sent parts, we started to lay out an RV-10 system,
and then they just got too busy and started blowing the RV-10 project
off for other things. At OSH, they said they were still too busy, and
ever since they haven't had time either. But, I did spend some time
getting a design together but they just needed to come up with one
custom bracket and then the RV-10 would be able to have dual visors
that would not only work on boths sides, but could be flipped
completely out of the way too. I was hoping that one day they'd
spend the time to finish up, because it would be a nice system.
From the looks of it, although having one visor is a HUGE improvement,
it's still far from ideal and is a real compromise in quality from
what you'd get with a system in something like a mooney or a
bonanza....so it would be great to see the project taken further.
Rosen did say that they could easily create custom shaped visors, but
they just didn't have the time to make the custom mount that I was
working up for them. My intention is to still go that route, even if
they don't do the mount themselves. I think with them making come
custom shaped visors, it wouldn't be too hard to get someone to make
a quantity of mounts and have a pretty slick RV-10 system. I may have
to get a prototype made though so it can prove itself. Too bad they
don't see the value of the RV-10 market like some companies.

I would carefully bend it back and check it for tears, gouges or scratches. If
you don't have any you should be okay although I would keep an eye on it during
inspections. If you have a tear than you would want to clean it up and repair
it using a doubler. You might also want to send a picture to Vans to document
the damage.

This has come up in some of my personal conversations with others as well as
on the list in the past, I think, but I wanted to share my opinion with the
whole group. When using body filler and prepping for paint on the cabin
top, I highly recommend not covering up all of the screws that are used.
Most things that are screwed on are going to end up needing to be removed at
some point down the road, and having the screw head showing makes it really
nice to get to. It is no problem to paint over them, but filling them in
(which we did on N256H) is, IMHO, better left undone. Especially door hinge
screws, seat belt screws and the maybe even the screws that hold the bar to
the cabin top. If you are worried about a leak, putting a little bit of
silicone or something like that in the hole before pushing the screw through
should take care of that.

Have you looked at a center mount that would allow 2 visors
to hang from it, one for each side?

Subject: | C-FXCS Flies.... |
RV-10 C-FXCS took to the air on Thurs Apr 5 with Colin Jordan at the
controls. He flew for one hour high power for break-in. The aircraft has a
heavy left wing, an oil leak on the pilot side, and I managed to reverse the
action on the aileron trim and the altitude hold. Colin said when he landed
that this was as close to taking off in a jet as you can get without being
in a jet. He was VERY impressed with the aircraft.
I delayed leaving on a weeks holidays so we could get the first flight in,
so I haven't addressed any of the issues as yet.
Question. What is the procedure to correct a heavy wing in an RV-10?

Sit in the other seat???? The heavy left wing may be due to a heavy
..... nah, I won't go there. Seriously, I'd worry about the heavy left
wing after you fly with both front seats filled ..... preferably with
pilots close in weight.
