Hi Bob,
wait until you upload the newest software coming out in the next weeks,
you can have your wind
vector on the main page (EFIS) , some new bugs on the compass as well,
glideslope directly in
the EFIS page, finally a VSI tape and a speed trend, all selectable one
by one.
See some of it here:

What sort of cable/control should I order for my Matco Parking Brake? Vendor?
Where have others terminated it under the panel?
Thanks in advance for replies!

I'm patiently waiting, ( I check the update section of the Dynon website
daily) I think the movement of the altitude and airspeed info on to the
center-line of the atitude display will be a big improvement over its
current location at the top of the screen.

Subject: RV10-List: OAT probe
I just mounted an OAT probe during my RV8 panel remodel. Since I had to
mount the magnetometer in the wingtip, and the OAT probe hooks up to that, I
mounted the probe in the aft part of the tip, where it is shaded by the
white wing tip, but is still exposed to the airflow. It's mounted thru the
outboard rib, with the probe portion extending outboard into the void
between the rib, and the tip rib. If you look forward into the gap between
the aileron and tip you can see it, but it's shaded, and the air moves in
that area. Works great.

For my parking brake I used the same push pulls that Van's gives you in the kit.
I then did some bending and riveting of some aluminum and made some stops for
the arm and placed a spring on the arm so it would be in the open position.
I then placed a micro switch on the assembly that was attached to a light on
my panel. The light is off only if the arm is in the full open position. So
far it has worked great.

Subject: | OSH 2007 for RV-10's |
Well, OSH is just over a month away now, and in LESS than a month,
there will be some of us with official on-site campsites!
First, I should say this: If you're going to OSH, it's probably just
not a good idea for all many hundreds of us to blast to the email list
our traveling intentions and dates...that's a lot of junk mail. So,
if you email me about OSH, please send it as an individual email to me
(or Bob, or Gary, or ...) and not to the list. Not that everyone isn't
glad you're coming, but it'll just get lost in the shuffle.
This year should be a great one for RV-10 fans, with over 85 flying
RV-10's I'd estimate we see perhaps up to 25-30 of them possibly show
up at the show...maybe more, if we can rouse their interest.
We've got plans in place for RV-10 Headquarters, the campsite grouping
in Camp Scholler where you can go to meet lots of RV-10 builders. This
should be a lot of fun this year if we can get people to plan and think
ahead a bit. Personally, I'd love to camp by my plane, but until we
get more like 150 flying RV-10's, I just don't think it'll be as
"group" oriented so I'm sticking with the Camp Scholler thing for
another year. The plan right now is that Bob Condrey and Gary Specketer
are showing up early to grab great campsites, and Bob will be happy
to reserve one for you....IF YOU'RE WILLING TO PAY HIM IN ADVANCE.
Last year got a little wild with last-minute showings and unplanned
attendance, so this year we're just going to do it all nice and
legal-like and we're going to officially rope off and pay for our sites
all in one group. This will mean a couple things: 1) If you're
interested in hanging with the group, there WILL be room for you
because we'll make room. 2) You'll perhaps want to get some good
coordination together for the camping. The reason is, you pay for
campsites from the day you reserve them, all the way through the
end of the show. And obviously, if we want to reserve sites together,
we need to pay and reserve them together...that's what Bob will
do for us. Yes, this means that you'll pay approximately $19 X 12
days = $228 for your site for all those days. But, you get benie's...
You get a parking pass with your site, so you can park on it. You
also get an awesome site that will be much easier to get back and
forth from during the show. Check out last year's sites:
http://www.myrv10.com/osh/RV10_HQ_2006.jpg
Those of you who've done this before know the value of a nearby
campsite. Scholler is HUGE, with something like 40,000 campers
if I remember what I heard right...and you DON'T want to be on the
way outside rows. We may even be close enough this year to be
in the wooded area, which would be awesome.
When you leave the site for the week, they will refund you for your
unused days (3 day minimum though), so I've tried to make things
easier for you to coordinate by starting a camping chart here:
http://www.myrv10.com/osh/OSH_2007_RV10HQ.jpg
With that chart, you can find someone else who's leaving early and
perhaps arrange to start paying for their site from the time that they
leave...that way you can share a site the remaining days. My
suggestion..... Book a site, offer off your extra days, but split
the total overall cost between you on a total percentage of time
occupied basis. That way you can share the cost of the pre-show
(17th through 23rd) too. Bob is going on the 17th to reserve
all of the sites, if I forgot to mention that....but only if you
pre-pay him before he leaves.
We'll also be perhaps arranging an RV-10 cookout one night so that
the attending people on the sites can all gather for a meal.
More to come on that later.
This is going to be a lot of work, so please bear with me if things
don't move ultra fast, but I've got the RV-10 builders list revamped
a little to accommodate the OSH 2007 show now. What you can do,
if you haven't done it for a while, is go re-enter your info on
the builders list using this link: http://www.myrv10.com/osh.html
That way I can verify and update your info, and get you on the list
for you days that you plan to attend OSH. This can be a central
clearing house of information to help you locate your fellow
builders at the show. I've got fields for if your dates of
attendance, if you're going to the BBQ or Banquet, if you're
bringing kids and what ages they are, and if you're camping in
RV-10HQ. If you're intending on leaving your campsite early, let
Bob know when you arrange camping with him and he'll make sure
I enter it on the chart right so you can try to round up someone
to continue the site.
So there you go...it's officially kicked off. Camp Scholler
actually opens TOMORROW, so if anyone wants to waste a few
thousand bucks as a gift, we could even rope them off right
away. ;)
Again, sorry if my responses get a little slow at times...I'm
trying to continue both a job and a life while I do this, but it'll
be great to help coordinate and bring you all together.

glad you're coming, but it'll just get lost in the shuffle.

A little more -
My mailing address will be on the attendee list
(www.myrv10.com/osh.html) if you want to mail a check for the campsite
fee. I can also accept PayPal but I need to ask you to pick up their
processing fee of $6.91 (making the total $234.91). Finally, the site
will be registered in your name and I'll need you to send me your EAA
membership number to include on the registration.
I talked with Gary a little earlier today and he's also willing to get
sites ahead of time but later in the week (starting Friday instead of
Tuesday 7/17, etc). He will make every effort to get something close to
the rest of the group but you need to understand that Camp Scholler
starts filling very quickly the few days before the show start on
Monday.

And just in case anybody needs reminders or motivation, Tim has pictures
from last year in his photo album
http://www.myrv10.com/miscphotos/OSH2006/index.html
All of the campsite pictures (including Stein on the motorized couch)
are in the RV-10 HQ area. Down toward the bottom of the web page
picture rv_10_hq_996.jpg shows how things were late in the week of the
show - we only had 3 campsites and the motorhomes at the left and right
ends of the picture are taking up 2 of them. It was getting tough to
actually get around the campsites - that's why we're trying to be a bit
more organized this year...

It's time to get the fuselage (with engine) on wheels sans vertical stab out
of the garage. Does anyone have the height of the fuselage in said
condition? How have others gotten the airframe out of the 84" garage?

I just measured (sight) and it looks like with the wheels on the top of
the cabin cover is 77 1/2" off the ground.

Subject: | Re: ACS Experimental Door Handle |
nick, this handle from spruce is made by an independent machinist in the
midwest somewhere. Its actually a great design and well built, just too deep
(thick) for our doors. We really don't need two double tabs for linkage
attachment. I talked to the machinist to modify it to better fit our
application and found he wasn't interested. I've been diligently woking on a
modified version to offer to rv10's specificly. I've attached pics on how my
kit attaches to the existing pushrod mechanism without modifications to the
original design. I wanted to leave the interior locking handle in place for
safety. If you bought a set already drop me a line and I'll send some of the
dimensions for linkages and guideblocks I used. (note the pics were taken
with the aircraft spruce handles in my doors)

Any suggestions, one way or the other, from your experiences? I would love
to see any pictures that you may have, as I'm sure that they will help,
especially with the handle design.

Rick,
We haven't done it yet but we are planning 2 PC680s, one up the front to
crank the engine, and the second down the back for the endurance bus. We
plan to follow Bob Knuckolls' approach of changing out the cranking battery
and rotating the new battery down the back to maximize life on the endurance
bus battery. We have purchased the RV7 firewall mount kit and we will locate
it when we have the engine hung. I would prefer to hang it on the engine
side of the firewall, but if I can't, then we will put it inside somewhere
'convenient'.
I have done several W & B calcs using the numbers other people have
published for their RV 10s and I feel comfortable with the results. Being a
first time builder we have gone a bit overboard with the primer on the
empennage parts, which is all weight way down the back and we are looking at
the light weight starter and alternators which reduces weight at the front.
