Subject: | audio panel location question |
The Audio panel traditionally has been at the top because it is not very
deep from front to back and the top is tapered down to allow for the glare
shield to slope. Thus you would use minimal space for it and it is space
that other radios could not use.
That is my story and I am sticking to it.

This is a real SWAG ...... but along with the audio switches were the
marker beacon lights ..... and being up high made it easier to keep in
the scan. That's about all the reasons I can think of.

With the exception of above, I can't think of one. But how often do you
switch radios anyway? With flip/flop radios, you always have the next
or last freq on the inactive side, so switching single-display radios is
history. Most of the hi9gh-time pilots I fly with use one primary radio
almost exclusively for 2-way comms, and use the second radio to listen
to ATIS and stuff like that. I can't separate two radios talking in my
ear, so I don't put the speaker (headphones) on both.

Chris,
I couldn't think of a good reason to put the audio panel on top to
the stack so I didn't. There is a very good reason not to put it on
top. The length of the audio panel (PSE 7000) is much shorter than
the radios below and maintenance or wiring changes would be very
difficult.

Subject: | Boeing surplus Mesa? |
David, John Cox was here visiting and he made mention that he thought
that Boeing had a retail surplus store in Mesa. Do you know if this is
true? If so what are hours of operation and what type of merchandise do
they typically have?
Thanks

Group,
Attached is a problem that I had, and would never have caught had I not
had an experience builder look over my project. It is not the type of thing I
would think most builders would catch or understand the implications unless
they would know that there could be an issue.
Please review what I have put together and comment. Sorry that the
drawings and explanation may not be completely clear so I would like to hear you
comments and will change based on everyone's feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to do the write-up. As I am not there yet I
will take note of it when the time comes.

Great write-up. Thanks!
You ask Van's support what they thought? If so, what was the response? I
have had great success with them thus far.
