I haven't attended before, but will be attending this one. I'm happy to hear
some other list members are going. I'm looking forward to putting some more
faces to the names.
I've done quite a bit of glass work on boats, but all the trimming and
finishing for an aircraft has been giving me a bit of pause. Especially
with all the good things I hear about it. I'll be fitting the top in a month
or two so the class timing was about perfect for me.

Thankfully we are much better than the average group about working throug
h our family problems. The Internet is a big bad place if you listen to so
me people and it's true that you need a thick skin sometimes. I make a poi
nt to take nothing personal and so I go along without losing sleep or makin
g rash decisions. Occasionally I make less than well thought out comments
and people call me on it, fair enough. Even the recent engine debates seem
ed rather civil to me even though some people equate that subject to a war.
One of the my chief complaints about how Doug run's things is the same re
ason this group was born here on Matronics. Censorship. Looking at the th
read that was referenced in Bob's post you really can't find anything that
would make a grown man run off like that. But as you read on you realize t
hat, once again, Doug has found fit to edit someone else's post and leave n
o record of the action. This is the exact reason that a bunch of us defect
ed from his very active RV-10 list when it was on Yahoo and moved here. At
the time it killed all activity there. Most other sites that actually use
the practice of moderation will leave a comment behind when editing anothe
r's post. It's polite and the right thing to do but Doug doesn't. He just
hacks posts to his liking and never says a word. I REALLY don't like it w
hen someone messes with what I say and IMHO this furthers activity that he
seeks to block. I mean really, if you honestly want to stop that ban the
user, like he threatens, and the place will become very cocktail party lik
e in no time. But wait, that would cut into his registered user numbers th
at he uses to justify his crazy add prices. At least he doesn't hide behin
d the false pretence of doing it for his kids college money anymore.

Pascal,
Don't underestimate the respectability of everyone here on all
sides of any discussion. There is very little here that
happens that drives people into anger. Yeah, everyone has some
disappointment when others don't seem to "get it",and that goes
for both sides of any argument, but at the same time, we make
room for those differences as we're all a part of the same
family in general....the RV-10 kit family. I think that's what
makes this list work so well is that we celebrate that single
big similarity more. Engines, primers, EFIS's, and all the other
things are just components in the big scheme of things, but it's
the fact that they'll be flying the same kit model that gives
a union of similarity. There are many hot button topics, but
none that really get me riled up too much. I have done things
the way that I did, using all the learned info to make my
own conclusions. Everyone else really should do the same.
Ingest, digest, and then produce your own outcome. The key
is soaking in all the info you can. If we avoid talking about
the hot button topics, we don't do anyone any favors. And
if both camps of any topic don't participate, then the
discussion goes nowhere, and people don't get the positives
and negatives or other thinking points. So it's all worth
while.
I'll leave you with this post I grabbed off the Lancair list
that I think was a repost from elsewhere. I found it really
humorous.

found this to be hysterical...
HOW MANY EMAIL LIST MEMBERS DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB?
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently.
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...
Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid.
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp".
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light
bulb" is perfectly correct.
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take
this discussion to a light bulb forum.
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light
bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum.
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to
buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this
technique and what brands are faulty.
5 People to post pics of their own light bulbs.
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs.
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the
corrected URL's.
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all
headers and signatures, and add "Me too".
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot
handle the light bulb controversy.
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about
light bulbs".
1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that George W. isn't
the brightest bulb.

I was following this thread and as usual opinions abound on the right way/m
y way/your way on how to fill fiberglass. I didn't see the post that offend
ed Darwin, I did see his post saying he was "outta here". This group has al
ways policed itself, that's why were here instead of the old yahoo format.
I participate on Doug's site as well and usually don't get very opinionated
on any of them, just offer up my suggestions of what I may have or would h
ave done in a situation. I don't consider myself an expert on anything, and
there is always someone else who knows more. The good old Internet, emails
and text messages carry a perceived=C2-emotional and often misinterprete
d message that we can't properly relay unless we are having a=C2-actual t
alking conversation. Everyone here has always respected each other, the mor
e we meet in person the better it gets, like after OSH every year. I recall
=C2-John Cox getting beat up here a few times, If you have or ever have m
et and talked with him you get a better understanding of how he communicate
s just as you would Deems, myself or anyone else once you get to know them
personally.=C2-Written communication often lacks the "personality" of it'
s writer,=C2-unless your a professional like Bob Collins, who I met once
briefly,=C2-but feel like I know because of his=C2-articles and writing
skills. Just my very humble opinion.

With the Family in OZ comments and the alternate engine debate that was an
expansion of the kitplane article these last couple of days, Tim is right,
this is a solid group that handles issues well.
I was just bringing a debate that someone took personally to our attention
not because we suffer of this but just to remind us sometimes.. nothing
more.
We are a great group and many have depended on this forum for guidance,
especially myself.

while inconveniencing the many. Kinda like waiting in line barefoot at the
large airports. The law of unintended consequences.
I had a non-pilot interloper comment that security like that (gates & fences) "should
be mandated at all small airports" -- I had to help him correct his "frame
of reference."

When I was a kid (LONG time ago)one of the major arterial streets in
Tulsa ended roughly 100 yds from the main runway at KTUL. One of the
great pleasures we had as youngsters was going to Brahms, getting an ice
cream and cruisin' to the airport with Dad on Saturday nights to watch
take offs and landings. Now we have locked gates, limited access, and
the big eye in the sky watching you if your within 1/4 mile of the
field. Damn shame

It is truly a shame at the impact the goofy rules are making on a great way
of life. At my last airport the 'strict' security policy included giving
all those with legal access a card that was nothing more than a business
card with your picture printed on it that my kids could have duplicated in
minutes.
William, thanks for taking the time to educate the non-pilot on how things
could be and used to be. I hope we can somehow encourage lookers and
wanna-be's back onto the airfield someday.

The US political system serves well as international entertainment.
It's pretty entertaining domestically too. I was similarly entertained
by the hubbub around the Queen's Golden Jubilee visit to her southern

the glass at the terminal when ever a plane goes by! He's starting to

Rhonda you crack me up with the old age comments, anyone who knows her knows she
is a looker :)!!!
I'll be willing to bet so many of us did the ice cream, airport thing. I would
hang around the "Poor Indians" parachute club at the Burlington County Airport
in South Jersey to see if they had a full load of 5 crazy skydivers, if only
four were going, I could strap on a chute and go up hooked to the floor of a stripped
out 182. How's that for no liability society! I'll never forget the climb
to 10 or 12 thousand and watch them all pile out. Then the fun began with
a screaming descent down into the pattern as to not waste any gas and get ready
to take up a few more, hopefully only 4 would be ready. This was around 1973
or 1974 I was 12 years old. I would ride my bike to the airport, long two lane
country road, across a big grass field, no fences. What a great and special
time it was...I'll never forget those days. Hard to believe that 27 or so odd
years later at 545 AM or so my time I would watch the World Trade Center getting
hit by 757's driven by some of the worlds biggest scumbags. I'll never forget
those minutes, hours and days either. It stinks to grow up.

When I was a kid (LONG time ago)one of the major arterial streets in
Tulsa ended roughly 100 yds from the main runway at KTUL. One of the
great pleasures we had as youngsters was going to Brahms, getting an ice
cream and cruisin' to the airport with Dad on Saturday nights to watch
take offs and landings. Now we have locked gates, limited access, and
the big eye in the sky watching you if your within 1/4 mile of the
field. Damn shame

fence so they are barred from evil deeds.
Before the fence, people interested in flying would often stop by and

or bring their kids to watch. No more.
